Hello,

So our joint sponsor for our case is an American Citizen but was born in Japan when his father was stationed there in the military.

He doesn't have a copy of his record of birth and we are needing to request a replacement from the State Department for the AOS package.

Does anyone know how long it takes to get? We just got our NOA2 last week. We wrote up the letter that we needed to request it for them and she is trying to get them to sign it and get it notarized but it has been taking a while. She didn't give it to him right away. She is pregnant and was sick and then daughter was sick, etc. So she gave it to him last weekend and he is only home on the weekends...so I am hoping she gets it back today...but then I have read that it takes 4-8 weeks to get it....I thought I read it on the State Department site (http://travel.state.gov/content/passports/english/abroad/events-and-records/birth/replace-or-amend-consular-report-of-birth-abroad.html) but it doesn't say that there anymore.

Any one ever had to request one before? Any idea how long it takes? I really don't want this to be what holds up our case. We obviously should have requested it a while ago...but yeah...it is what it is as I explained above.

Given that we got NOA2 on June 26th, when would we be looking at being able to send the AOS package? I am kind of freaking out about this holding up our case now. I tried to push my wife but it s hard...she has been sick the whole pregnancy, she is almost 8 months pregnant now...so I can only ask so much of my poor wife.

Sadly he doesn't have anything else to prove citizenship I believe. No passport and no birth certificate that is easy to get a copy of...just the FS-240. Has never needed anything else before.

I really appreciate any advice anyone has.

I'm guessing no one has any idea on this one?

What about timeline between NOA2 and when you can send AOS package. How long is it normally?

Can the joint sponsor not provide a copy of his bio page of his passport?

You have up to a year between contact with the NVC. You do not have a timeframe in which to submit documents.

They don't have a passport. To get a passport they would also need this document.

I know you have a year. I meant more like we are trying to go as fast as possible and this is obviously stressing me. So I meant if we call NVC get our case number and pay fees as fast as possible, what is the soonest we would be looking at being able to send our AOS package?

Thanks

Any US citizen or green card holder can be a joint sponsor. Perhaps you should find another willing person so that this doesn't hang you up.

Yeah...I don't think my wife has anyone else she wants to ask to do this. We should have done this sooner but it has taken so long to do with everything. It has me really frustrated to be honest...I should have made us submit it sooner. My wife is still trying to get it back from them to mail....so I am freaking out.

I read somewhere that it takes 4-8 weeks. Then somewhere 8-12 weeks. Now I just read somewhere else 3-6 months.

If we could just submit it, would make me feel better then we could at least call and ask how long.

Soonest you can send the AOS is after recieving the document page which is often before the AOS invoice
