My husband is adding me to his health insurance while I am here. Mainly so I can get my wisdom teeth taking out! Anyway. It asks for my Ss number and I do have one from my j1 year but I don't know if I am allowed to use it? Any advice?

Oh and I am currently here just visiting. Whilst in process of cr1.

Your SSN will stay the same all your life. Yes, you can use it. Do check your husband's insurance to make sure you are allowed to be added even while not a US resident though.

Fraudulent? Lol. When he is going to pay for it, no it isn't. We just called and there is an option to add non-Us citizens so will be doing that to be safe. I also just realised my name wouldn't be the same anyway!

You might have to wait for open enrollment in November. There are life events that would allow you to be added outside or the enrollment period...like immediately after marriage or immigration. Not sure if visiting counts since you are not immigrating at this time.

It may not be such a good deal because it won't be free. And paying premiums all those months before you actually immigrate is a factor. Work out the costs if you haven't already. NHS may be a better deal while you are still eligible for it.

SS Number is for life, not that you actually need one in this case.
