Things went badly for us, she wants to leave after being here 1 week

Hi Everyone...

Well, not everyone has a happy ending for their story. After 8 long months of working toward the goal of getting Maria her K1 visa completed and approved, it finally happened!

Then, after she arrived in the USA (Sacramento, California) she became so homesick and overwhelmed, I finally had to give in and I booked her a flight home tomorrow night (June 26th, 2015)

My question is, and even though we are cutting it off between us (I mean what choice do I have? She is returning to the Phils) I want her to be comfortable, and to have a stress free return trip home.

Is there anything else she needs to leave the USA besides her valid Philippine Passport? Obviously we talked about her "Losing" her ability to stay in the USA by leaving before we get married and file the AOS... I just want her to be able to get on the plane in Sacramento, California without any hassles if possible.

I'm heartbroken and completely hurt by all of this but I am a gentleman and I care for her a lot...

Any help would be greatly appreciated as she is scheduled to leave in less than 24 hours...

Sorry to hear about this. I may not be able to answer your question but I'd still want to comment. Did she tell you what she'd like to do once she gets back to the PH? I am the pinay and luckily, I haven't felt homesick. I am not saying that it's anyone fault as it really depends on the person, however, my husband made sure that I eat my food and take me somewhere to eat the american food on my first few weeks, It was seemed like a vacation on the first few weeks. Did you ask her what can you do to make her stay?

I am so sad for you. The adjustment can be really hard for them. We went through a rough first few months also but now things are settling down and he is adjusting waaaaaaayyyyy better. I was almost at the point of throwing in the towel. I'm sorry....If possible and she will listen encourage here that she is not alone in the homesick thing. See if she will give it a little more time, and tell her that I empathize with her. If needed you can inbox me and I can share our story. There is one post about our challenges if you search for it.

One week? My wife is Pinay and after we read this we have to agree that there is something deep rooted and more complex than being homesick. Especially in Sacramento where Filipinos are abundant (not like Minnesota for instance).

So lucky my wife is the one who said "I don't care where we are as long as we are together"

I am sorry to hear that!! but like everyone said, you should convince her first to take a little bit more of time to adjust, not just to give her the way out. It's a process to go through, and it must to happen! even after the long process of waiting for the approval and issuance of the visa, she should give you, and the country that she suppose to call "home" in the future.. maybe at least try to stay a month...!!!

Really wish you guys can figure it out, and maybe just pospone her flight...

Let's respect a decision that an adult person has made about their own personal life. We don't know her reasons, we don't know her state of mind. Her decision is the right one for her at this time. Her life, her rights. That is all.

“The minute I heard my first love story I started looking for you, not knowing how blind that was.
Lovers don't finally meet somewhere.
They're in each other all along.”

Probably didn't lie. Probably was just mistaken about what actually occurred.

Let me take a stab at this. I think the problem is with the use of the term "open application". It is more correct to say an "open K1 process". Because many do not file immediately for adjustment of status after marrying, a visa officer may in the future believe that you got married, she left the US for some reason, and she is now applying for a visitor via to return to the US and resume her life with you. By notifying the US Embassy in Manila and USCIS that the marriage did not occur within the 90 days and she left the US on (whatever date it was) will ensure that there are no questions about how the process ended.

I wish you the best as you sort through this very difficult situation -- regardless of advice here, you guys need to make the decision that is best for you both and only you can decide what that is.

I am so thankful for all the support we have received from everyone on Visa Journey! We spent a lot of time discussing everything about her decision, we read everyone's posts, and my Maria did decide it was way too soon to leave the USA!

So, she has decided to stay and work thru the homesickness and keep her mind on her and I... I am so happy because without the input of everyone who took the time to leave such positive comments, I'm not sure what the outcome might have been..

I even got a deal on the airline cancellation! I was only charged $25 to cancel the flight! WOW!

Thank you everyone once again!

Good for you really. I am so happy for you both. We all know how it is when we either came over or our significant other came over with the being homesick. You and her have a full 90 days to work on your relationship before you have to get married or her leave the county. Just give it some time and patience then you should be good. You are pretty lucky with living in California and there are some many Filipinos living here. Try to take your fiance out to some Pinoy places and eateries, it helped my wife when she was craving a particular food (especially while being pregnant).

Also it might be better for you to teach her how to drive, so when she gets her DL she doesn't feel cooped up. My wife kinda felt like that when I was at work all day and she was home. Once she learned how to drive and got her DL she is fine now.
