A CR1 visa will take about a year. Theoretically, you can work immediately...but most places require a social security number. So you can work as soon as you get that number which would be 1 to 5 weeks after POE.

Post is confusing.. has fiance applied for your K visa, or would he be petitioning for a spouse visa? Two different things!

You cannot work on a K, but can on a spouse visa once married and followed by a year-long CR1 process in Canada\India.

POE is "port of entry".

You cna work in the USA, but how much your degree counts will depend on the type of degree.

A diploma in Canada is the equivalent of an associates degree in the USA. It's from a 2 year course. They're obtained from colleges vs universities (community colleges in the USA). How useful it will be depends on how specialized it is (Veterinary Technician for example) and if the US association for that area accepts your diploma. If it's not specialized, likely it's not worth much. I have a 2 year diploma in Equine Science, which is specialized, but frankly it's worth about as much as the paper it's printed on despite how much I spent on schooling. I'd have been better off with a 2 year diploma in Business admin.... So it really depends.
