NVC do I have to send them translated documents?

I know that I can bring documents in german as well as in english to the embassy in Frankfurt.

Can I send the NVC documents in german as well? Or do I have to get them translated?

It says on NVC's website that you should send documents in English or in the official language of the country in which you will have the interview. We decided to translate all documents to English, just to be on the safe side. We didn't wanna risk a checklist for something like that.

NVC seems to loooove to give people checklists. Would be interesting to see statistics over the number of checklists actually given.

that's exactly why I was asking So confusing...

A checklist means we have to wait longer..which we obviously do not want.

Getting documents translated can be very expensive though, am I right? I need to get my birth certificate and my police certificate translated.

Fortunately, in Sweden documents from the government is available in like five different languages so I only had to get one document translated. But yeah, that document cost like 120.

I've heard of some people on here doing the translation themselves and putting that special comment on it about it being accurate and the person competent to translate. But again, we didn't wanna risk any delay so we went with the authorized translator.

The website says no but do get them translated. What if the person reviewing your file doesn't speak German, I honestly think NVC has to change that lol.

When you file your I130, you didnt translate the birth certificate? And you can always have someone translated for you just make sure to add the statement.

The State Department uses a list to determine what the documents look like since the person that is reviewing the document at NVC more then likely doesn't speak the language.

We mailed my German birth certificate and police record (in case of no entries) to NVC and it was completely fine. I think NVC just checks the documents for authenticity and key words to see if you sent the right papers. After all, they'll mail the entire IV package to Frankfurt anyway where they can read your German documents without a problem.

Therefore, save the time and mail your stuff to NVC now.

Edit: Just for future reference, you can get an "international" form of your birth certificate for 10€ at your Standesamt. It's in German, English and French - no need to hire a translator. You don't need it for NVC or the consulate, but it does come in handy once you're in the US.
