Being a Christian, I would not enter that country, I would fear I would just disappear. And a woman would bbe twice as bad.

Your advice is way off, please be informed before you make such suggestions.

Nigeria is made up of around about 50/50 Christian/Muslim... and it's usually only really dangerous in the North where Boko Haram currently is.

Dear... you seem to have alot of negativity towards our posters here, or imagination, I'm not sure. No one has put you down. No one has assumed to read your mind and know what you are thinking. .. and no one has commented on your lack of response. You came here and posted for advice, but at every turn you have acted like we have attacked you personally. This whole visa thing is a tough process. I suggest if your head strong to go through with this, you toughen up your skin, put on your big girl pants, and listen to advice. Because your not going to get through this process without it. And your definitely not going to get through it being thin skinned and thinking you know everything and that everyone is talking down to you at every turn. Everyone here has only tried to help. I'm sorry if you don't like the advice given, but its the facts. Suck it up, face it, and do the visa the right way.

Sounds like you are rushing this and need to take a step back.

He will be graduating and presumably is looking for a job, he could certainly focus on jobs that have a potential US tie in.

Not sure when you graduate but this is a long and expensive process so having a solid income also helps.

Obviously to get a job and a visa to the US depends both on his skill set and contacts.

I read and followed this site for months before applying for any visa and wasting good money. Everyone wants to be together as quickly as possible but you will find that immigration does not work to your timeline unfortunately

Take some time, learn about visas, requirements, and everything that entails so you can be truly prepared.

Also, if you haven't already please please research his culture, his country, and it's customs. I have visited my fiancé 5x. I read about the food, the music, watch videos, everything to learn more about him that I can. I cannot stress how important that is for now and your future together.

hi OP i know it's hard hearing the tough advice that everyone is giving you. But please be patient on doing k1.
There is no easy way.
You have to meet him. Period. That's a requirement.

If you're on a financial hardship, why don't you just hold it first, earn a ticket, meet him somewhere and enjoy your time together as a couple.
Don't rush yourselves getting married, get to know him more. I think that's what people here are trying to say to you.

I know how it feels to do the wait, it's like forever... I have to wait for 5 years for my boyfriend to become a citizen so he could file k1 for me.
If you really love each other you/he will understand that your situation now is not the best for k1, or visitor visa or employment visa.

I know your journey will not be easy but in time you'll realize that it is worth it and at the end you'll appreciate each other more.

A lot of countries are advising their citizens against non-essential travels to Nigeria, with the exception of usually Lagos. But even for those travelling to Lagos, most countries are advising their citizens to be extremely vigilant and give a whole list of things to avoid and look out for.

There are many places in the world where it's not safe for people to travel. And as a woman, you have to be particularly vigilant and safety minded.

And yes OP, as others have already stated, one of the requirements for the K-1 visa is that you have met at least once in person. Perhaps you two can meet somewhere else? When I was living and working in London, several of my friends and colleagues where from Nigeria. Maybe look into the possibility of your fiance being able to travel to the UK for you two to meet?

those advisories are overly conservative. To be honest, there a several US cities which would fall under the "travel" warning criteria but there are no such warnings by the US government about visiting.

If you are a student, there are special sites around that wave the flight taxes for you. I paid around $300 Heathrow to Washington DC using my student card. Not all airlines do this and it is limited.

Unfortunately getting a visa to the UK will be just as difficult as him getting one to the US. Its fairly easy for Nigerians to get a visa to go to South Africa, and you don't need a visa to go there. However, like other posters have pointed out, going to another country is going to make it hard for you to meet his friends and family. WHICH I HATE the thought of 'staging' photos for the sake of immigration...like you MUST take photos with friends and family whether you like it or not...but sadly that is the name of the game with immigration. I had mentioned in my earlier comment that I have now come to Ghana to stay with my husband rather than the two of us going to Nigeria since I had some bad experiences on my several stays in Nigeria. None of them had anything to do with being female or Christian. It had to do with me being easily recognized as a foreigner. Of course you can experience Nigeria without fear of 'disappearing' (especially in Lagos) but I can boldly say we have way more freedom to be out and about at all hours of the night in Ghana without being harassed by anyone. I've been in Ghana for 6 years and never had to pay a police bribe even when we pass through police checkpoints 3 times a night. But again, that's just ME. I have a friend back in the States who has traveled to Nigeria twice and both times never had any issues.
