Missed interview

I’m in proccess to get my green card (I-485) and I couldn’t go to the interview because my spouse had to travel. And she had to ravel no because some relative was sick or a force majeure reason. She traveled for vacations, she bought her tickets one and a half months before the interview (we received the notification of the interview 2 weeks after she booked everything and pay, so she couldn’t cancel the trip).

I called a day before the interview to wonder if I can re-schedule the interview and they just sent me am email with this:

An individual may for good cause request that their interview be rescheduled. However you must provide a reason for your absence. Please send a written statement within 30 days explaining your absence with any supporting documents to the following address...

What can I present? Should I get a medical excuse for that days saying I was sick? Or to get a letter from my boss saying I had to work? What can be the best solution?

So your spouse loves to travel more than her husband's immigration matters. Something is not right here buddy. You reschedule interview many days before actual date, not after.

Not sure if this serious because the reasons quoted are pretty lousy for missing AOS interview - whatever you're going to provide, you better hurry up because in few days your AOS will be denied and you'll be out of $1,070....

Stick to the truth and hopefully you will make it but I can't understand why she took the trip knowing the interview could happen at

any time. You guys gambled with this and lost. Contact them as soon as possible.....NOW is a good time.....before they close your case.

The reason of vacation does not seem to be a good reason at all but some people get lucky, depends on your adjudicator.

OP: What was the time frame between the day you received the AOS interview letter and the day you contacted USCIS inquiring about rescheduling?

BTW, honesty is always the best policy, especially when dealing with USCIS.

You have to tell the truth on the Officer but like what we received on the interview notice mail, we have to contact them ahead of the date of interview to re-schedule your interview. I think you did that already. I guess you can present a letter stating that your wife needs to travel for a major reason plus your wife's personal letter that's why you need to re-schedule. Print the email notice you received too for evidence that you re-scheduled your interview. Wish you the best here I believe you will pass through this as well.

Oh no I missed that hmmm..why don't he call USCIS again or better yet come to the interview himself and present every evidence of bonafide relationship to the Officer. In my opinion, if that's the only way I will go to the interview by myself and present everything. You're right a "vacation" is not a valid reason at all. I'm sorry about this.

Why on God's green Earth did you wait until the day BEFORE your interview to contact USCIS to reschedule???? And why why WHY didn't you just go without her? And why would she ever go on vacation if she knew your interview was coming up? Just wow on so many levels.

I agree with the mimolicious. What were you thinking? How can a vacation be that important?

And most importantly of all: you mention that she had scheduled the vacation well in advance and had to go because she didn't want to lose out on that money. Why didn't you re-schedule as soon as you got the notice of the interview date? Something doesn't add up here. Either you're not telling the whole story and something else is going on or you guys were really unlucky when you thought things through.

And also, why didn't you go? Nothing was stopping you from going or calling them to let you know you weren't coming. Lying is not a good idea especially with a fake medical note. It would have to be pretty serious condition for you, not to be able to attend or even let them know you weren't coming. This leads to more questions that you can't answer plus might even lead to request of more evidence that you don't have.

A not from your boss... What boss in America would prevent their personnel to attend an important visa interview?

Be honest in your reply and see what happens next; don't lie.

Past is past, but think it through carefully from this point on if you really want to immigrate. A lot of trouble to go through, and expense.
