Hiring more non-white officers is difficult because so many would-be recruits have criminal records, New York police commissioner Bill Bratton has said.

“We have a significant population gap among African American males because so many of them have spent time in jail and, as such, we can’t hire them,” Bratton said in an interview with the Guardian.

It is a well known fact that black males are incarnated at a much higher rate . We have had many discussions about .I don't know why you would think his statement is racist it only stands to reason more black apllicants would have records

The problem I have is this type of conversation never comes up when it's white people. It's always blacks this or hispanics that, or even asians. It's like it's too hard to just say, we're reaching out and trying to get more applicants that are from a different ethnicity.

He was probably asked why they are not hiring more blacks and gave an honest answe . You are way too sensitive

Now if the root had published and article that bemoaned the fact that less blacks where in law enforcement because of our racist judicial system you would have been high fiving. Same answer

Not really, just pointing out how this doesn't happen outside communities of color. If someone went to the Catholic Church and asked why they don't do more for the youth of America, do you honestly think the answer would be, well you know we had that big scandal a few years back and several of our priests molested thousands of children so yeah, we have to hang back a little bit.
