I`m sure your husband will be so excited for you to come over that he`ll drive!

My fiance and myself already made a deal ( because I am taking my cat with me when I move to the US) I`ll be only taking one flight instead of the usual 2. This means he`ll have to drive 3-4 hours to pick me up either in Charlotte or Dulles, DC (same distance). He`s just gonna do that to make sure I`m safe :) I`m sure your husband will do the same thing for you, no husband or wife wants to send their spouse on a several hour bus drive if they can find another solution :) Taxi is going to be extremely expensive probably

Thank you everyone :) will keep your tips in mind and discuss this with my husband :) he did offer to pick me up a while ago but I said it was fine not considering the fact 2 hours has a 50/50 chance of me missing the flight. Thank you so much everyone! :)

I would deffinately say that that is not enough time.

You never know what will happen on the day you fly.

And I always use my story as an example.

Booked my tickets a week before and left 4 hours in between thinking that'd be perfect, which it was! My Poe only took half an hour.

The problem was my flight to America was delayed by 3 hours before I even checked in....

Got to the airport and the checkin desk sign was telling us it was delayed by 3 hours.

When we finally started checking in we sat in the plane waiting to move for a further hour because the airport was so busy.

So by the time I finally landed, I was over 4 hours delayed, and deffinately missed my flight.

If anything take my story as a warning that you shouldn't predict how fast you'll get through the airport.. Because you don't know what other outside factors may slow you down.

wow, sorry you missed your flight! yeah I am scared of maybe my first leg of flight will have some delay and I can't do anything about it but to spend more money and not get a refund on the missed one...

We are leaning towards more now of taking the train or my husband picking me up. As it's cheaper and New York isn't too far from Philly.

Delta will take care of putting you on any missed flights if anything happens, if you have other flights booked with Delta. I have flown Delta the last 10 trips to and from Philippines.

I take the 9 am flight usually, A few trips ago they had to replace engine took 4 hours in Manila, We landed late in Detroit, Delta took care of getting me on my final destination flight to Dallas.

I was mainly talking about once you leave Philippines, and if a flight is late or has issues, then Delta will make sure to get you to your final destination....

was wondering if it's cutting too close, if I arrive at jfk at 1130 am and then a connecting flight to philly that is 1:30 pm?

2 hours is sufficient IF ALL GOES SMOOTH...that is a big IF.

My wife was stuck in Houston airport POE for 4 hours because they misplaced her passport.

This is why we made Houston the POE city, just in case there is a mess up like this.

Also, over the weekend, my daughter flew back from Shanghai, and the flight was delayed

departed by 2 hours, and she missed the connecting flight in Toronto to Chicago,

and they put her up in hotel for the night.

The airline will take care of later connecting flight if the delay was due to their fault,

but if the POE is delayed and you miss the flight, you are on your own.

Here is what you will have to cover in 2 hours...

1. Go through a long walk to get to the POE checkpoint, and wait in line to

go through a quick check/interview.

2. Walk some more to the baggage claims, and wait to pick up your bags.

3. Take you bags and go through the customs check line.

4. And then (possibly) walk to another domestic flight terminal

and go through the security checks again.

I think 2 hours is cutting it way too tight even if the flight arrives on time.

And if there is 1 hour delay in arrival, I think you'll miss the connecting flight for sure.

I would be more comfortable with 4+ hours,

or at least have an alternate back up plan just in case.

I am sorry, I used the wrong term...

it's not a connecting flight, what I was going to do was, take an international flight to JFK and then transfer to PHL using a domestic flight, meaning I will have to transfer to a different area at the airport..

will that still be enough?

Walk quickly after leaving the airplane (being ahead of more people helps ;) ), when you get to the customs/immigration room ask an agent for the correct window then beat feet there. After that you will collect your luggage and then customs check before heading to the gate for your next flight. JFK can be very busy so I have read many times.

Hi georgegina it would be alot better if your husband picked you up from JFK that a really big airport easy to get delayed cyz your running from one terminal to the next plus the baggage claim area is really crowded so i would not gamble on making your flight to philly in that short of time cuz i tried and ended up taking the train back ,, wish you all the luck

JFK is a monster of an airport. The exterior signage is terrible, so it could be a disaster if the interior "directions" are similar. I vote for your husband picking you up. Grand Central Station can be overwhelming for even a seasoned New Yorker (me!). Another train option might be an Amtrak from Penn Station to Philadelphia. I find Penn easier then Grand Central...but I still vote for riding with your husband. Traffic at that time of night "shouldn't" be bad.

I have left my luggage at POE and not picked them up different trips and they (I assume airlines) just send it on to my final destination..

Not going to start a flame or anything, but you are really kidding about this, right?

You didn't clear bags through customs? I'm surprised your bags weren't blown up or at least dispatched to national lost and found warehouse.

It may have worked for you but I certainly would not recommend this tactic for other international travelers.

I misread the times...traffic might be ok midday...but it is New York...(ask him to pick you up anyway!)

we just realized July 3 is kind of a holiday weekday, people might be leaving and going to NY for the 4th of July celebration.. but we decided to have him pick me up. :D

now the next thing for me to do is study the JFK airport map if he gets stuck in traffic and I can hang out somewhere.. with wifi.

Heard JFK is pretty huge, I am not sure how much larger than LAX but I hope not something I'd get lost in.
