So who is the real problem, the illegals, the American business owners who hire them or the American government for allowing it to happen? I put the illegal at the bottom of this list of three. Without 1&2, 3 wouldn't be able to survive.

It's all 3 for sure, but it starts when illegals #3 are willing to ####### themselves out for money

How does one work one's tale off? And what exactly do they convince one of in a convince store? Georgia seems to be an odd place...

A lot of Asians also come to America to deliver their anchor babies...

A convince store is where you go when you're not sure or torn.....

There's an additional group your overlooking which has a profound influence ... the American consumer, who would undoubtedly take a different stance when consumer prices rose through the roof after they've grown accustomed to prices which can arguably be described as artificially low. Consumer demand is where it begins and sets the bar in the risk vs. reward consideration of working illegally.

I disagree. It starts with the business owners who knowingly hire them.

No.

It starts with the consumer demand for the goods and/or services the business owners recognize a need for and fulfill with illegal labor.

Politicians pay the issue of illegal labor lip service to satisfy a vocal, but minor constituency; while effectively doing nothing on a larger scale because they know the impact to the economy would be in the negative direction and piss off a far larger part of their constituency.

Illegal labor plays an important role in our economy and it will never, ever go away. It will ebb and flow depending on our unemployment levels and perception as to how it affects the population as a whole.

Last Task After Layoff at Disney: Train Foreign Replacements

More
ORLANDO, Fla. — The employees who kept the data systems humming in the vast Walt Disney fantasy fief did not suspect trouble when they were suddenly summoned to meetings with their boss.

While families rode the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and searched for Nemo on clamobiles in the theme parks, these workers monitored computers in industrial buildings nearby, making sure millions of Walt Disney World ticket sales, store purchases and hotel reservations went through without a hitch. Some were performing so well that they thought they had been called in for bonuses.

Instead, about 250 Disney employees were told in late October that they would be laid off. Many of their jobs were transferred to immigrants on temporary visas for highly skilled technical workers, who were brought in by an outsourcing firm based in India. Over the next three months, some Disney employees were required to train their replacements to do the jobs they had lost.

“I just couldn’t believe they could fly people in to sit at our desks and take over our jobs exactly,” said one former worker, an American in his 40s who remains unemployed since his last day at Disney on Jan. 30. “It was so humiliating to train somebody else to take over your job. I still can’t grasp it.”

You are never going to stop someone from sneaking into any country when they believe it is the solution to their (or their families) poverty. It sure as hell would not stop me. If you don't want them coming in then you have to make it in their interests not to be here. You do that by not having jobs available to them - you do that by making the punishment so severe that no person or no company would consider it - make reporting such activity a benefit to the person that reported it (even if it is the illegal worker doing the reporting).

Two reasons this will never happen and why immigration reform will never work: First even though wages would rise so would the price on some goods. We can't expect people to pay 2.93 for corn flakes when illegal labor can churn it out at 2.79.. Secondly there are too many voters now that have a vested personal interest in allowing it to happen and the politicians are scared. It is to the point that illegal workers actually protest about immigration reform - can you imagine protests in Mexico from people living there illegally? Crazy.

Neither party wants to fix the problem - they don't even talk about it. Republicans want to build a useless wall, Democrats just want to find a way to turn them into supporters and are bribing the republicans by allowing many more H-1B visas in the bill which will make big companies happy - so the "reform bill" will just end up depressing the market further by moving the low end to legal status which will create a hole for more illegals to come in and fill (since we did not bother to fix that problem) and the middle class erodes due the many many more H-1Bs to drive down wages there...

Good job congress.

Of course you can not stop it, moving it from millions to tens of thousands should be possible.

I wonder what percentage of the estimated 12 million illegal immigrants (just pulled one of the estimates, I know it varies wildly) are illegal works vs. not working?

Going from millions to tens of thousands is very aggressive and unlikely.

The real problem is that there are so many govt programs that many no longer need to take menial jobs to survive . So we pay people not to work and breed kids and bring in illegals to do the job

Before the libs howl, it happens every day in middle ga. Neighboring counties have high numbers of young people on public assistance but have to bring in immigrants to work in the peach packing biz, because they can't get the locals to do it . Simple fact, if the belly got empty they would go to work

You also have the big business that employ the folks coming from across the borders as well. Living on govt programs isn't balling.

That's what's wrong when you apply a basic solution to a complex problem. Start talking about starving folks to get them to work, the folks who can't are caught up in the middle.

There was a interesting article in the LA Times the other day.

Basically guy 51 has a child no mention of mother worked for McDonalds $9.60 an hour going up to $10.

Anyway he had calculated that an increase to $15 would mean he was worse off, simply could not live on the increased wage due to everything he would lose out on.

Not pregnant again yet, but I am getting the hard sell on that too. But we're planning to file for her citizenship in the next few days.

That's great news (the citizenship part, at least)! Keep us apprised.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

So you think the business owners employing the illegals are passing the savings on to the consumer?
