Welfare is a hand up not a hand out. Does not anyone remember the great Bill Clinton speech of 1996 on Welfare Reform "Today, we are taking an historic chance to make welfare what it was meant to be, a second chance, not a way of life"

A man comes here and says he is on hard times and he gets shamed for not being able to provide for himself? Thats what welfare is- a temporary program to help those in need get back on their feet. Sadly some LPRs can not qualify. The OP should not be discouraged or belittled for getting or seeking aid if he truly needs it on a temporary basis.

So going back a bit to his original post- support will not come from his sponsors. Not directly. While it is technically possible to sue under the 864, it is not feasible. He can see the thread in this section titled suing under the 864 or getting sued under the 864 by Brian1967 (I think thats the user name) for more info. Its probably a page or two or 3 deep in the effects of major changes sub section by now.

For the divorce- He can either find a pro-bono attny to help with his divorce or attempt to sit down with his ex and work out an arrangement with out attnys or use the court system on his own with mediators.

For general support- He would have to go down to the local dept of social services and see what if any public aid he is entitled to and for how long. Any support he gets, YES, his sponsors would have to reimburse the gov for IF and only IF the gov decides to collect it from them. Rarely does the government ask for the money back. Anyone with a personal opinion of this is wrong and one should provide for themselves and should not accept a hand out is reminded to see the statement above- welfare is designed to be a hand up. Sometimes people are in need. Have compassion. If you can not accept this and simply must rant- -please do so--- somewhere else. Like off topic. (thank you)

If the dept of social services can not provide any assistance they can direct the OP to other agencies that may be able to provide assistance like food banks or catholic charities or agencies that do not care about immigration status.

I think people were talking about the reality.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

Divorce court is the province of women. Read this: http://forum.mensdivorce.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=15642

You will need a local attorney to deal with your case. Stay away from this woman. If I were you, I'd claim alimony to support myself. It's really tricky for men. But, it can be done.
