Rent or Buy Advice

Where in NC are you thinking of moving? We live on the coast of SC and just a heads up the rental situation here is a little rough as there is not much out there. It really depends on the region but educate yourself before so you know about how long it will take to find something.

My two scents on your situation is that it really comes down to you handling the stress of moving, finding a job, making friends and build a home by yourself or with him.

If you live with your parents it may be nice to have your own space when he gets here. I am the foreign spouse so I am the one that moved here and from my perspective it was nice knowing where exactly I would be moving. It was such a journey to sell all my stuff, move out of my apartment etc that I was happy to know I wouldn't have to house hunt when I get here. But I also was fortunate to be here a lot before I moved so we created this home together beforehand.

Best of luck and the most exciting times are ahead so enjoy every minute!

Take your name off the mortgage. You can still be on the title.

Also make sure you're figuring out a house priced based on a single income. That way if something happens to one of your jobs, you can still afford to live. Yeah you can get a nicer house if you combine incomes, but the last thing you want is a foreclosure if there is an unforeseen issue.

A house should be no more than 30% of your gross income.

I would make sure you have a job lined up or at least a serious amount of money saved up. We moved to Greensboro because my husband got a job here but I have not been able to find a job after looking for six months. I have a lot of work experience and a Masters degree, but there are not jobs in my area here. I guess if you are moving to Charlotte or Raleigh you will have better luck, but it's tough not having any connections here. Also, I would definitely rent and make sure this is where you want to settle. It's nice here, but we have not been happy and are hoping to move back to Florida or somewhere soon.

I moved out of parents again but all hopeful that my fiancé was coming..huge mistake! We got denied and i live in an apt all myself, no pet to even being some noise around there.

If you so wanna move, move but dont buy a house yet. It is best to have the two of you make the decision together. Good luck o you guys.
