Disgusting.

Chicago police took 'hunting' photograph with black man as prey

An Illinois judge has released a long-concealed picture that shows two Chicago police officers posing over an unidentified black man in antlers while holding rifles as if he had been hunted.

The photo, which was given to police by federal prosecutors in 2013, was made public for the first time on Wednesday by Cook county Judge Thomas Allen. It was taken sometime between 1998 and 2003 at the Harrison police district station on the west side.

This station is a mile south of Homan Square, the facility where the Guardian earlier this year identified alleged police misconduct and torture as well as other civil rights violations.

And since we have absolutely zero information on the context of the story, all this proves is that the media will do anything to fan the flames of racial unrest.

a. The black guy posed for the picture and did not seem to think it was racist

b. Is it possible they were all friends and they had been to a costume party

c. Would it have been racist if the black guy had been one of the hunters and one of the white guys the deer? Of course not, then it would just have been 3 friends making a funny photo

The everything is racist hysteria is out of control

Its time to stop pandering to this kind of absurdity and tell people to grow up and move on

The context of the story is of a Chicago Police division which ran a 'black site' in which numerous people detained there have described (with striking consistency) serious abuses of their constitutional rights.

The context of the photo is a little different, however given that one of the officers in the photo is serving 12 years in prison for robbery (in fact, not just robbery - but leading a team of corrupt cops in committing multiple crimes involving robbery and house-breaking), one wonders how much analysis of his motives is really required.

But anyway - here's your context. I knew you wouldn't bother to look - so I took the liberty of doing it for you. Wonderful human beings these two.

Police investigators believe Finnigan and McDermott posed in the photo while McDermott was assigned to SOS between 1999 and 2003, when he became a detective, according to court records in McDermott’s case.

When the feds confronted Finnigan with the photo, he told them he and McDermott arrested the African-American man for having “20 bags of weed” and the man provided them with the rifles, according to court records. The photo was taken in the tactical office of the Harrison Police District on the West Side, Finnigan said.

But the police department’s Bureau of Internal Affairs says it was unable to identify the African-American man in the photo.

Finnigan and McDermott did not file an arrest report involving the man, according to court records.

Finnigan told the FBI the man didn’t have a serious criminal background so they let him go without arresting him, a law enforcement source said, adding that the photo was taken in “the spur of the moment.”

Black Student ‘Lynches’ Two White Guys, Calls It Art

by College Fix Staff on December 18, 2013

An African-American student at Sacramento State University is under fire for her recent work of art – which consisted of “lynching” two white men from a tree on the northern California campus.

The men were reportedly actors and were in no real danger during the project, which took place during the day in early December while students were on campus. The men were hung from a tree with a thick rope.

Just call the photo of the officers "art"........ works for some folks

Black students hang white students and they call it art.

I struggle to think of a cogent point for posting this that could be seen in any way, shape or form as a counterpoint to the story in the OP. It simply has no relation and no relevance to the story - other than to further your own personal agenda, an agenda that makes you appear racist in the extreme.

In fact the above imo is the second most racist post in the thread - next to the guy who said that the antlers were the wrong way round.

There is a real, obvious and clear difference between law enforcement officers taking a questionable photo of an arrest suspect which occurred while they were in their 'official' capacity and an art project which involved volunteers.

You can't see it. I am not surprised.

Does not look like an arrest subject to me .. .. 3 friends posing for a gag photo ...Let the faux outrage continue.

In his closing arguments at the police board hearing, Herbert emphasized the lack of information about where and when the photo was taken — and the mystery surrounding the African-American man’s identity.

“What’s to say this individual wasn’t performing at a Christmas pageant in the district and was dressed as a reindeer and had taken the reindeer suit off? Again, I don’t mean to make preposterous arguments, but the charges in this case, they warrant that,” he said.

Herbert also compared the photo to an episode of “Seinfeld” in which Jerry is wrongly accused of picking his nose.

One of the people in the photo is on record saying that the photo was of an arrest subject... I would say that trumps what it looks like to you.

I'm curious why you have chosen to view this story as a matter of 'Us Vs. Them'.

Further above one post stated:

"When the feds confronted Finnigan with the photo, he told them he and McDermott arrested the African-American man for having “20 bags of weed”..."

So much for the "3 friends having fun" theory, lost. It's a loser. But what else is new? You're famous for them.

It's just too difficult for some of our illustrious wingnut posters to admit that a black man being treated badly is wrong. Instead we need to introduce a totally separate story involving different people in a different context as if it somehow justifies or one-ups the story in the OP.

When that doesn't work we instead have to hear about how the photo shows something other than what it shows. Whatever happened to a simple, human response?
