Mailing from US to Philippines

I just mailed a letter to my girlfriend in the Philippines and wanted to give some different prices and methods I found out about and maybe get some information on some I don't know about. First of all I tried Fedex and UPS. Fedex wanted $65 to send a letter and UPS wanted about $90. I can't justify paying that much to send a letter. USPS offers a service where they deliver directly to the destination in the Philippines but it is about $45 and it is only available in certain locations in the Philippines (my destination is not one of them). What I ended up doing is paying $14 to send it registered mail as an experement. They told me at the post office I would have tracking until it reaches the Philippines postal service. After that who knows if or when it will arive at it's destination. I have read horror stories about things disappearing in the mail. What do you guys think? How long can I expect it to take the letter to be delivered after it reaches the Philippines? If it helps the destination is in Binan which I am pretty sure isn't too far from Manila. There are no valuables in it either. Just a letter and a couple pictures. Anyone have any experience with this?

Yeah good luck with that. I have used USPS before and once it hit Philpost it took literally 3 weeks for them to give it to my friend. If you are mailing just a letter then email is the best way, if it is important documents then definitely use Fedex,DHL, or UPS. Avoid PhilPost at all costs.

I know I could just send an email but I think a hand written letter means more than an email. We'll see if it gets there though. I did take a picture of the letter so she can see it if it never arrives lol.

I'm still waiting for my Christmas letter to arrive sent three years ago.

Don't hold you breath. Philpost is run by a bunch of thieves. I'd put a note in a bottle and send it quicker and safer then depending on those crooks. I hate thieves. PERIOD :ranting:

When it absolutely, positively has to get there overnight.

I ordered a magazine online a year or two back. When I was tracking it from Greece it took 4 days to reach PH. After that, it was lost in the black hole that is Philpost lol.

Kidding aside it took 4 months for it to reach my house

These answers are not encourging. Maybe I will just come up with the $65 and rewrite the letter and send it Fedex. $65 is little much to send a letter but if I only do it a couple times that isn't too bad. Anyone use Fedex? Is it reasonably fast and reliable? This is not the reason that I wrote the letter but it is my understanding that a hand written and mailed letter is good evidence for an immigration interview. Is this true? Does anyone have any advice if she wanted to mail me something or should I just forget about that?

You can also explore DHL. They interface with LBT(?) in the Phils for domestic delivery.

Why should we sugar coat our answer. You asked for an opinion and we gave an honest answer. Your wasting your money.

Now that we know your reasoning behind the question. Having good pictures of the two of you together when you've have visited her in the Philippines us much stronger. Having pictures of you and her with her family is strong evidence also of a union between the two of you. Chat logs and financial support can add to the evidence. Save your money and invest in her using other means.

I don't want anyone to sugar coat any answers and I apprecite your honest answers. I was simply saying the answers don't look encourging. By the way if you think I am only sending a letter for immigration purposes you are wrong. I wasn't even thinking about that when I wrote the letter but later read about it in a message board post.

By the way I checked with DHL and they are quoting me $51 to send a letter. The cheapest price I have found yet but still expensive to send a letter.
