Hi i'm pure filipino my family member petition me.i want to petition my girlfriend from philippines what is the process for that? Is she allowed to live permanently here at u.s ? cause i want her to live permanenty here also. Do i need to stay 5 years in the u.s so i can petition here? What is the process for petitioning a girlfriend? I need some help guys thank you

Hi Elizer21, You are a green card holder. You can return to the PI and marry your girlfriend. You can file for a spousal visa. With the spousal visa, she will get a green card when she comes to Am

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong but only a U.S. citizen can petition someone to come live and stay in the U.S.

What is your status in the U.S. (green card holder, U.S. citizen,...) ?

Does she have any relatives in the U.S. that could petition her?

Don't rush this too much, take time to gather responses and informations. Immigration can be tricky but I have no doubt that you will get great answers on VJ.

Hi,

Only US citizens can petition for a girlfriend. A green card holder can not.

You can go to the PI and marry her. A green card holder can petition a spouse. It take about 2 years for her to get a green card.

No one can petition a girlfriend - be they a US citizen or LPR - because there are no visas for girlfriends (or boyfriends).

An LPR can petition for a spouse, and as stated it would take approximately two years. A US citizen can petition for a spouse, which will take about a year, or a fiancé/fiancée, which will take ~6 - 10 months.

It has to be official and recognized

So is she allowed to live permanently in the u.s for spouse visa?

You know that it can take up to 2 years until she can come to the U.S. right? Then some restrictions will apply....
