26 Injured, 9 Killed In Baltimore Shootings During Memorial Day Weekend

Baltimore has faced its deadliest month since 1999 after 32 shootings left nine people dead this Memorial Day weekend.

Among the wounded was a 17-year-old boy shot in the arm and a 9-year-old boy shot in the leg, according to CBS Baltimore.

The violence began during the weekend and spilled into Monday, with two more people killed shortly after Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake (D) met with the Baltimore Police Department to discuss the violence, The Baltimore Sun reports.

The Sun reports there have been 35 homicides so far this month and 108 this year. By comparison, New York City -- with a significantly higher population -- has seen 115 murders this year.

No arrests have been made in the shootings, which left 26 injured. Police have not released the names of victims. One man, shot in the head, is listed in critical condition. Nine others are dead, with one man found covered in gunshot wounds on his chest and leg early Monday morning.

Yvonne Gunn, 67, told the Sun she heard shots during an incident this weekend in her Poppleton neighborhood of West Baltimore and was scared to look outside.

"I started praying," Gunn said. "I didn't move ... The drugs have escalated in this block in the last six months. With this new drug element in the block -- oh, Lord."

“It’s scary because I’ve got kids," someone in the Govans neighborhood, where a triple shooting occurred, told CBS Baltimore. "I don’t want anything to happen to my kids, especially around here. It’s a peaceful neighborhood."

Howard Libit, a spokesman for the mayor, said Rawlings-Blake is frustrated with the ongoing violence. In a statement, Police Commissioner Anthony Batts said his department is "moving aggressively" and hopes to "modernize and better equip ourselves for the future."

Baltimore has always been a horrible place. But clearly noone here is interested in the why other than black people live there and Democrats runn it. Clearly that is a meant to be conclusion via innuendo.

I guess so long as cowards can write off a whole section of society and a city with endemic problems as being nothing to do with them - they'll continue to happily wallow in their own ignorance while pushing their stale prejudices.

Incidentally, thats also another example of white privilege.

Point of my above comment. The same thing happened to Chicago. No one gave a damn about it until Sandy Hook went down. Then it was let's take a trip over to the South Side...

It always happens like this. When there's a mass shooting and the killer and victims are white, there's always a trip to the "hood". It happens because 1) gun control comes up and they use those neighborhoods to scare folks into thinking black and brown people will overtake them if they lose the right to bear arms and 2) to remind white people as a whole that what just transpired is just a drop in a bucket compared to the hood. That's why Waco got minimal coverage and now we're going to be focusing on Baltimore.

Before Sandy Hook, no one ran a story about the body count that happens daily in Chicago. Afterwards, it's all folks wanted to talk about. More kids have died in Chitown than soldiers in Afghanistan and Iraq combined. But no one cares about those lives, since it doesn't affect them.

Burning down half of Baltimore is the reason why. The police will show up from now on after the fact to make the report. Why chance being arrested for a made up crime that comes from the mayor. Just show up and take names of the dead and perhaps a witness. Just drop it in the file and wait for the next shooting by a black thug . ... Do it all over again . Thugs will run the streets . You saw that during the riots ... Black gang members pointing out Asian businesses to burn out. .... Just like the Jews in Germany before WW2 . Same thing different culture.
