Apologies for reviving the thread, but just had some questions regarding the vaccinations I'll need for for AOS - I want to get them done here and get the Knightsbridge Clinic to sign off on them to avoid problems and excessive charges in the States.

I'm 26, and looking at the CDC website I make it that I need the following:

  • Td/Tdap
  • MMR
  • Varicella/have had chickenpox
  • Flu
Firstly, is that correct based on your experience (for those who have done it)? Secondly, I'm a bit confused with the guidance on Td/Tdap. It says Td is needed for those 7 and older, with Tdap needed for 10-64 year olds. What's the difference?

Having obtained my vaccination record from my GP (which doesn't say I had the MMR, curiously, despite my mother suggesting I did so I might have to have that again I guess?) it appears I had what is described as 'Tetanus/low dose diphtheria' in December 2003. It also says 'exp 5/05' which I can only assume means that it expired in May 2005. Do I need to have a new vaccination or will this cover the Td/Tdap bit?

Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated!

You got Td in 2003. For US immigration the Td or Tdap can be longer ago than 10 years. You need a new Td. You're going to have to read something I already wrote if you want to know my answers to your other questions.

Chart is trying to show at what age Tdap is chosen over DTP. What if you were age 10?

Aha!! ..no to baby formulation...yes to adult formulation

That,whole thread is discussing immunizations.

I mean NO longer than 10 years ago on Td or Tdap. Yours is 12 years ago. Typo. I should proofread.

Oh, that's okay I understood that's what you meant anyway!

So, to summarise, I need to get a Tdap, sort out whether I've had the MMR (and if they can't find it in my records, get two doses in the run-up to the medical), maybe a flu (it'll be flu season by the time I apply for AOS so would it count getting it now if available?) and tell them at the interview that I have had chickenpox and ensure that they mark this with an 'F' to qualify for having that vaccination waived. Is that right?

I believe the seasonable vaccination requirements only apply depending on the date you have the medical. If your medical date is out of flu season, you do not need to have the flu shot.

If you have no record of MMR, get one shot just before your medical and the second will be waived for insufficient time interval. Four weeks are required between shots. If your shot was two weeks before medical exam, then they can not give you another so they sign off with the waiver. You never have to get it if you get everything required or waived at Knightsbridge. If you had one as a child, well it's been way longer than four weeks so the second is appropriate.

Yes to Tdap. Or DTP child version works too. Tetanus, diptheria, pertussis. p is not for polio.

No to flu shot. Signed off as not flu season at Knightsbridge, and it is waived because you were complete on your date of record...date the DS-3025 was signed. Doesn't matter when your AOS happens if you get done at Knightsbridge.

Tell them you had chickenpox. They may forget to ask. They mark Varicella History.

One edit: if your AOS takes over a year, you could be asked to have a new medical. So new medical means new date of record. Your previous waivers are out if you have to go for a new medical date. Hopefully they won't sit on your AOS over a year.

Regarding the AOS, if it comes to that, then it comes to that and I'll have no choice. Hopefully not, as you say.

Thanks again - invaluable advice!
