Case complete is a required step before getting an interview letter that is applicable for any immigrant visa that is processed through the National Visa Center.

Is there certain way that can be checked if the case is complete? As I remember I only got I-130 approval letter, and waiting my PD become current.

Yes,

if your i130 has been approved, you can call the NVC and find out what your case number and invoice number is. This is required in order to login to the online portal to pay for your Affidavit of support and immigrant visa fee. There's a link in my signature that has a great wiki that outlines every step. It will help you understand the process. After reading that feel free to post any questions you may have.

I have attorney to run this for me, just noticed "Case Complete", never aware of it. Only thing I know is I-130 got approved, have no clue if the case is completed. Should I call my attorney or find out by myself like call NVC?

Technically, you could sit back and let the attorney handle the entire process and just contact you when they need something from you. My attorney will charge me for calling the NVC and finding out the status of the case. This is something you could easily do yourself. You will require at the very least, your case number (which your lawyer or NVC can provide), the name and date of birth of the applicant, and of course the name of the petitioner. Also in order to reach case complete you should have at least submitted all your civil documents and the petitioner documents to your lawyer. You also need to have finished the DS-260 form online at ceac.state.gov. Check with your lawyer to get as much information as possible.

The disadvantage, in my experience of having a lawyer is that they may not always communicate with you in a timely fashion. For example, my attorney was very adamant that they did not need to prioritize my case as my priority date was not close. I had to fight and argue in order to get them to speed things up and get things filed with the NVC. The only advantage of having a lawyer is that the NVC will waive one of the forms required and invoice the IV fee and the Affidavit of support fee at the same time.

The reason why you want to rush is because the NVC used to take anywhere between 45-60 days to review a case before reaching case complete. (this seems to be a lot faster now a days). And if you get a checklist (request for additional documentation), then that can further add another 30-40 days review time to the case. Again, this matters because NVC only schedules you if you have "case complete" status. Technically, the Visa bulletin could jump several months in advance or retrogress as well. And when that happens, you definitely want to be in a case complete status to make sure you have the best possible chance to receive an interview letter.

By the way, why don't you provide some more information about your case like what your priority date is, and when did you receive i130 approval and what service center etc. it may help some of the other members chime in as well.

hello Baang - you are further along in the process than I am. It looks like it wont be long for you but you should keep calling NVC,

I have no idea how long supervisor reviews take....they seem all over the place with no rhyme or reason.

So keep calling and keep us updated with your progress.

Best of luck!

You're welcome. I get it now. You are the beneficiary, and you already are in the US. So in your case you will need to apply for an adjustment of status once your priority date becomes current. So yes, you don;t need to worry about the normal NVC process.

You're welcome. I get it now. You are the beneficiary, and you already are in the US. So in your case you will need to apply for an adjustment of status once your priority date becomes current. So yes, you don;t need to worry about the normal NVC process.

Yes, did not explain it well at beginning.

Best luck!
