Port of Entry: Abu Dhabi Etihad Airways Terminal 3

Ok so I'm not sure how many people are aware yet that for US bound flights from Abu Dhabi you clear customs in Abu Dhabi before boarding the US bound plane and once it lands in the US, you simply walk out to baggage claim as if you arrived on a domestic flight. So for immigration purposes will that be our port of entry? Or should we travel via another layover airline that comes in the traditional way with customs clearance in the US airport?

Any experience?

**Moderator hat off**

It's perfectly fine to use a preclearance facility. These have been in place in Canada for years. Ireland has them as well.

To be honest it might be possibly quicker and a better idea, it can be hit or miss with the level of how busy the airports in the u.s. can be .

We used the Abu Dhabi pre-clearance POE last summer. It was quick and easy. The IO's seemed to be aware of flight departures and were making every effort to get people processed and through to avoid missed flights. One benefit of the pre-clearance is that you don't have to sit on the plane worrying about the remote possibility of being denied entry once you reach the U.S.

We're using it again in about 5 weeks - direct Abu Dhabi to Washington D.C. on Etihad.
