A friend of my husband's family was stopped because he only had a one way ticket. He wasn't sure of his return date, so he wanted to buy it in the US. Bad idea! They wouldn't let him on the plane in India.

If your father is unsure about how long he wants to stay, try a more flexible ticket so he can change the return date without penalty. And of course, make sure to avoid overstay.

Usually a round trip is a LOT cheaper.

While in general round trip tickets are cheaper, there have been posting in VJ from folks traveling from the Philippines that say it is cheaper to buy one way tickets.

As other's have said OP, better to buy a round trip ticket or two one way ticket to show that he will be returning back home.

I have never seen a one way there and back ever be cheaper than a round trip.

Whether a single round trip or two single-trip tickets, choose one or the other.

Based on OP's other posts, father had a GC he previously surrendered; CBP may query if he arrives on a B2 without a return tkt.
