Hey VJers,

After twelve long months, it's a good feeling today to know that this leg of our immigration journey has been completed.

Interview experience:

My appointment was set for 9:00am at the Embassy in Jamaica. I got to the embassy early and entered through the main entrance at about 7:15am. Went in and sat down for the process to begin. I sat for one hour before my name was called for the first time (8:15am) to hand in my Medical Report, Police Report and Passport. Five minutes later I was called again to do fingerprints. Sat down again to await the interview.

At approximately 9:45am, I was called for the interview. I approached window 7 and the process began. Asked to swear or affirm whether all the information I will be sharing with the Officer, was true. I swore.

CO: Good morning Mrs. xxxxxx

Me: Good morning maam.

CO: Flipping through my file, said "Have you ever traveled to the US before? and when was your last visit

Me: Yes maam. January 2014

CO: Have you ever visited your husband?

Me: Yes maam, January 2014

CO: Great

She asked about my husbands divorces and the names of the exes, to which I supplied the information.

In between her questions, she was nodding her head in affirmation. She then remarked,

CO: "I am impressed with your file...very organized..it's the best I've seen in a while. Not many persons come with the things in place."

Me: Thank you very much (smiling broadly)

I must admit that when my husband and I started the petition for USCIS, and the documents for NVC, using all the sample documents/letters found on VJ, we made sure we to organize the documents in order, stapling and labeling as necessary.

Back to the interview:

CO: Where did you get married? Do you have any pictures?

Me: Jamaica. Yes I do (pulled out about 13 photos of wedding and honeymoon and past them under the window.

CO: Looking at the photos. "Wow, these are lovely. Did you do your hair?

Me: No, I didn't. Got it done by the hairdresser.

She picked up the leaflet about Immigration Rights, and asked me if I saw it before
Me: Yes maam, I have a copy and have read it a couple times.

CO: Ok, great.

She completed her questions, handed me my Marriage and Birth Certificates, and informed me that my package will be mailed out to me. Have a good day.

When I walked away from the window, it was 10:00am.

It is so important to ensure that from the get go, you organize the contents/documents that you will be sending out. Always keep in mind, the reaction of the person who would be assessing your file. If your documents are not properly labeled, complied, organize, it may prove a challenge for the Officer, which can have a bearing on the interview experience at the end.

Hope the information provided would be helpful to someone.

Christine
