Well in more detail, you could argue that spending on amtrak as a part of greater spending overall could have effects on economic stability, other government programs that are more important (ie Medicare) etc.

One argument against amtrak is that large sections of its system are little used.

I say all this, but am pro amtrak.

If we just divert all of the spending on our Nuclear Arsenal to the railroads its a win win. We could strap ICBMS on the back of amtrak. I'm sure that would work.

Too big to fail are only those business entities that lawmakers can milk for campaign cash. Not sure how good a source Amtrak really is. Can't be that good or it would not be neglected like this.

I'm all about the constitution, but Presidential systems are generally unstable and collapse easily. Its amazing our government functions at all still.
