Sometimes ""family traditions"" get in the way of USA immigration. You have to do what is best for you and your fiance.

I would file a K-1 after your visit, and you can prove you two have met face to face, within two years of filing.

K-1 could take a few months up to 10, 12..,.,

Click on the ""Guides"" section on top of the home page, and then select K-1 visa.,.,.,.read, and study.,.,read and study! Also, the ""flow section"" of what happens on the pathway to your K-1.

Good luck.

JosephKD,

i am also a Ghanaian amd i was faced with similar dilemma with family meeting fiancé.

My parents are both in the USA and fiancé is in Ghana and his parents are scattered in Europe so neither of our parents have met Nor have my parents met my fiancé.

My parents know him thrpugh emails, phone calls,pics..

it is doable.

Do the K-1. Go and visit the girl since it might be easier for you to visit her. If she can't come and visit arrangement for a skype or a hangout with your parents.

I perfectly understand how our culture works but things have changed and i am sure your parents will accept the situation.

K-1 takes 6months to 1yr. It will give ou and your fiancé and your families enough time to get to know eachother. Plus, you two and prepare for your lives together..good luck

That's amazing story!! Blessing to you and your new family!!

Yeah culture shouldn't be a problem, and I talked with my girlfriend and she doesn't want to rush into marriage either! So k-1 seems scary right now. But given the fact it will take time and since I'm going to Indonesia in February. Hopefully by then we know the right step to take. If her family give me the blessing, then we can start from there.

Your comment is a blessing!! Give me hope for the future!!

Thank you, and I agree. I know my girlfriend is nervous, because it's new and fears she won't be able to get the visa.

K-1 would perfect for us, but because of circumstance beyond or control. A regular visitor visa would be best till we can sit down with all our family and plan for a wedding, that will have to include two different cultures and tones of family members.

I hope and pray by years end, I will know more about the process and the right steps to take.

JosephKD,

you're welcome.

Just go over the K-1 forms and processes before you leave for Indonesia.

So that you can gather your "evidence of relationship " whiles there. Then when you start the process, you will be mpre prepared. Good luck to you!
