If it's just 2 of you, the required income is (only) around $20k.

If gets $10/hour job and works 40 hours a week,

that will put him at $20k.

I'm not saying making $20k is a trivial for everyone,

but I don't think it's super difficult to do in US.

My 18 year old son (at the time) worked 2 years before he went to college,

and he made over $20k. He worked as a cashier at a grocery store during the day,

and worked 2nd part time telemarketer job in the some evenings and some Saturdays.

So he worked about 50 to 60 hours a week.

How much does he make now?

What type of job does he do?

The only reason to use assets is because income is low. How does a person with a low income have so much assets? It's suspicious by nature.

I'm in the same boat as you. We also had a joint sponsor lined up, we sent our supporting documents and financial documents to her, she said she added her's and sent the whole packet to NVC. Two weeks later, we found out she never sent anything to NVC and she got scared and said she can't be our sponsor so I definitely know the heartache you're going through. ?

It seems so unfair that spouses of USC must show all these financial means when someone winning the green card lottery doesn't... But unfortunately, that's the way it is and unless you find another joint sponsor or collect enough salary/assets, you won't be able immigrate. You do know that you can supplement your husband's salary with assets though, right? Meaning if your husband has an annual salary of e.g. $18,000, then you can add $2,000 in assets to meet the poverty lines.

Lottery winners must still show they have the finances to not become a public charge and can use the I-134 to have a joint sponsor do so. So, they do still kind of have to do it, just not with the I-864 and it's stricter contractual agreement.

An old colleague of mine is a permanent resident in the US based on winning the green card lottery and the only "proof" that she wasn't gonna become a liability on the US government was her high school diploma and her CV, to show her ability to find work. She didn't have to show any assets or have a financial sponsor.

Be mindful of the asset rules though, it would not just be $2000 in addition to $18,000 to meet the requirement.

In this case, you would meet the income requirements if the net value of the assets equaled at least $20,000.

Not without a hefty fee anyway.

I'd imagine there are people who'd co-sponsor for a price. Cash up front in exchange for the possibility of having to pay something later.

Someone should franchise that idea all across the States!
