As long as the dog's over 6 months and not of a giant breed (which a collie is NOT of a giant breed) the rabies shot is very safe and I'd just do it.

Thanks, I know about the rabies shot. Strange that it isn't federal but every state insists on it. Would it be better to get before travel from Ireland, or on day of arrival in GA after drive from Chicago?

I brought my King Charles Cavalier from Australia (Perth) to North Georgia.

All went well through customs, and he landed in LA first. He was then sent to Atlanta. We had about 3-4 days where he was with me in GA without his shot, but I made an vet appointment and got his shot as soon as possible (rabies vacc).

Now he is all up to date on all vaccinations, and is also rabies protected. As the rabies shot was the only vaccine he required, they are giving a booster shot for all in October when he is normally due for his vaccinations.

I suggest that you get a flea and tick treatment here as well! I use Nexguard and it works very well. Just note that the ticks in the woods can be dangerous and cause paralysis etc, so make sure your poochie is covered for that. It automatically covers for fleas too, although we have never had a flea problem anyhow.

Bring all vet papers with you to the vet for all vaccinations, surgeries etc and just give to your vet to make notes. That what I did so now my dog's medical history is all up to date here.
