My partner already had a dog when I met him, but since getting married he's rescued another, and then I got one. I'm not living in the States yet, but I was able to spend six months with him and the pooches over the winter, and it was great. During that time we also rescued a cat, so he has two dogs, and I have a dog and a cat. It's a good thing our house is pretty big, haha. Since I'm gone it's harder for him to take care of them, but once we're living together it'll be no problem at all. I'm looking forward to seeing my family again.

Your blog is cute. I actually thought about starting a blog about my and my colombian wife. Among other things, the rules and regulations in Colombia aren't nothing like they are in modernized western cultures. Talking to different officials always results in different answers. It was such a pain in the butt just to get married in Colombia. Congratulation on your visa approval!

Rescue FTW!!!! The absolute best and smartest dog I've ever had is a rescue. I've known people who brought a dog over from the UK. I don't know all the details but I know there was a quarantine period involved. Plus I get really nervous about the thought of putting a pet on a plane because of the horror stories that pop up every now and then. I know 99% of the time it's fine but airlines are horrible so I don't trust them at all.

A quick google search for "Bringing dog to the US" revealed the following guidelines from the CDC:

I brought my cats from Indonesia to America. Rescued cats - not bought ones-. They are the most loving and smartest cats I have ever had.

U.S. is not as strict as the other countries for example U.K. In fact, my country - following rules from U.K.- more strict than U.S. regarding pets policy. I had to prepare all documents and when I was at my PoE at Detroit, the officer did not even asked us the documents. He just asked my husband," oh is it a cat? I can see his paws hanging around. So cute". That's all.

My advise to whoever wants to bring their pets to the U.S., pay attention to the home country of pets and how to prepare the quarantine before they are leaving. Also, only two states in the U.S. have to do quarantine, Hawaii and Guam. Pet policy of airlines also included. Choose wisely which airlines allow to bring pets with their owners. I refused to use airlines that put my cats in cargo.

My cats are small and airlines allowed my husband and I took them with carry-on luggages. It was long flight 22 hours excluding layovers. But that was worth of money, time and energy to brought them with us.

For documents, I had to pay 300 USD to pet company who took care all papers not for transportation. For all airlines, it was about a thousand of dollars for my two cats (Asiana and Delta). Silver Airways did not charge us because their agent said we were connecting flight passengers from Delta and it was included all luggages fees ( my cats were at carry-on luggages).

Brought my dog from Australia to Atlanta Georgia. All went well.

I booked through a pet travel company as he needed comfort stops, and overnight stays in Sydney and in Los Angeles due to so many stops. I was worried but all ok.

He went as cargo (unable to take onto plane with you in Australia, and otherwise I'd have taken 3+ days of lugging my 3 suitcases around the world at 3 months pregnant, plus my HUGE dog crate... Too stressful). Paid a bit more than if I had done it myself, but I knew he was taken care of for our door step in Perth Australia, to landing in Atlanta Georgia.

I reieceved an update at each stop as to how he was doing, and an update when he was on his next plane.

I adopted a 5 mo pup few months after we bought a house. Walknig a dog is a great way to meet people in your neighbourhood!

But I agree with others... Don't shop - adopt!

It is not where I breathe but where I love that I live.

We did both. We left our dog in Chile initially until we got settled here and now we're finally bringing her over here next week. We also adopted another dog from here in the U.S. which was honestly the best decision ever.... definitely adopt :)

I would think that the state you enter and the airline, would have different guidelines.,.,regarding bringing animals to the USA.

Maybe.,.,,.or maybe not.
