1. I-129fs have been delayed at various service centers for a long time, much longer than there was such a thing called DACA. It's now TSC that has delays. It used to be CSC and VSC (which stopped handling I-129fs).

2. USCIS created a service center in Arlington, VA to handle DACA matters and only DACA matters. TSC sometimes blames DACA for its slowness, but who knows how valid that is. ]

3. While DACA will increase the workload for USCIS, it will also increase its funding to afford more facilities and personnel. That's how USCIS was able to open up a new center in Arlington.

In other words, DACA is NOT the reason for TSC being so bad. Perhaps it has made some impact, but it is far from the sole or even biggest cause. TSC has slowly morphed into the awful service center that it is today.

No, it probably will not since USCIS is funded through fees. Actually, the undocumented, illegal immigrants are eating into the budget created by the fee paying legal immigrants. This is the reason that Congress could not shut down the DACA stuff; It created a self-funding agency that requires no additional money from the treasury. They have a completely independent financial structure.

I hope that the processing time somehow gets better for the K-1 stuck at TSC and hopefully for everyone everywhere with all the cases.

The differences really suck. Be it with a K-1 or an IR/CR-1. And the fact that they "don't see" the differences and say everything is fine or do things that don't help people stuck there...is even worse.

You realize DACA applicants have to pay a fee right? $485/application? That's why I said it will increase USCIS' funds.

I am probably missing something here. Maybe there is more to this story on past threads. Your timeline says you filed the I-129 in late November. 5 months later you have made Congressional inquiries, written to the president, and arranged a NYT interview. 5 months may be a bit long, but it isn't that far out of their normal processing standards. Perhaps the application keeps getting pulled from the adjudication stack to respond to the inquiries.

Right, I think there is a bit more to the story. Kristin's inquiries regarding her petition were kinda more like fact finding missions, I think. To try to glean some information from uscis regarding how it works, rather than complain about her own processing time.

The nyt angle is not to push her own case forward either. An article was written 2 years ago(ish) regarding how daca affected processing of spouse petitions. Kristin reached out to that author to see if she would be interested in hearing how uscis and tsc have so badly mangled the k1 process currently. It's just to highlight the processing time discrepancy.

FYI I-130's sent from the US from somebody that's adjusting from a B1/B2, VWP or out of status most of the time are processed faster than K-1/AOS process. My friend adjusted from a B1/B2 at the same time I adjusted from a K1, she just got approved at an interview scheduled from an office that's supposedly processing I-485's from August of last year, I'll probably get an interview waiver like most k-1's (still haven't heard a thing from USCIS). Check out the Adjustment of Status report forums, since you're going to be in that boat when you get here. Maybe you can bring that up too?

We've asked csc filers to do this in the past to help prove the processing times when uscis was denying that csc was moving so quickly. We told ppl to redact out their personal info. Not a single person was willing to do so.
