Why buy a round trip ticket to HK? Just buy a one way... it is a "throw away" as in not actually using it, no need for a return flight from HK,!!;)

Nope, she does not need a throw-away. She can complete her dual citizenship, then she will have both passports. Most do this. OR

IF... if she has just gotten her new U.S. passport and hasn't completed dual citizenship, all she needs to do is bring her Philippine passport with her anyway. Either way she is golden.

Thanx for the reply! Well first off, we heard that the Philippines is no longer having a duel citizenship option :( Also, her Philippines passport is about to expire, so I guess we should go renew that before we get her US citizenship....

I think I've replied to you guys in the past regarding this. I went to med school here and had a balikbayan stamp converted in-country into a student visa.

They'll know she's Filipina by birth because in her soon to come US Passport in the Bio page it will say "PLACE OF BIRTH - PHILIPPINES"

Yes and thank you. We are still trying to figure out some of the logistics such as this, it does make sense that her US passport will say POB Phillippens lol didn't think of that! The only real question left is if I need a roundtrip ticket to Hong Kong or not? I still do not understand how that would work...would I actually fly to HK, would the ticket to HK be a connecting flight or just a flight out of the Phillippines before 3 months is up (How many days after my flight to the Philippines should the HK ticket be?). This is all really silly.

Hearing is one thing.

Show me something from a PHL Gov't source that says this.

Dual citizenship. You got that backwards, Philippines didn't use to do it now they do,before 2003 they didn't. Easy to complete; simply oath taking process after your wife receives her U.S. citizenship.

Thanx everyone for all this help. The only other question I have is if a one way ticket to HK will or will not be accepted? If I can not get a one way ticket to the Philippines, then why can I expect to be able to get a one way ticket to HK? Well, it's not that expensive anyway maybe I'll just do a round trip since there is conflicting reports about this.

Just bought tickets to HKG last week. R/T for me $105, One way for Wife and Daughter $90 (total), and that's with all the crappy seat selection and baggage fees. Cebu Pacific was cheaper than PAL then, seems to flip depending on who has the sale

ya thats cheap

Buying a one way ticket is no issue, using it may be ... but you are not using it.

I have never had any trouble flying on one-way tickets when accompanied by my wife. Checkin staff servicing RP-bound flights are generally well aware of the implications of balikbayan status in my experience.

are you flying from japan or the united states?

From Japan but it shouldn't matter (as the onward ticket requirement is from RP). The check in staff tell me I need a RT, I tell them I'll be availing BB status, they check that I have the NSO certificate on me and nothing more is said. They clearly know the deal regarding BB privilege.

what is an nso certificate, is it the stamp from the last time you stayed?
