I entered on a K1 visa with K2 dependants and have the following questions:

1.Do I file one I-485 or theree separate ones? (I have 2 K-2s)

2.Should we get the social security number BEFORE or AFTER marriage? [The scenario is we will get married the day after arrival and we just need to know that there will be no problem. We will send AOS documents on the 3rd day ie arrive day 1,marry day 2, file AOS day 3].

3. How long ona verage does AOS take in Charlotte, NC?

Any help will be appreciated.

AOS process

Sent I-485, I-765 packet on 3/1/07

Biometrics 3/29/07

Transferred to CSC 4/6/07

Touched 5/8/07

Touched 5/9/07

EAD approved/card ordered 5/21/2007

6/25/07: RFE for DS-3025,copy of marriage license and I-693A, all originally sent to the clowns.

AOS approved July 5, 2007; Card production ordered and welcome letters sent.

Hello and welcome, To answer your questions.

1. On the AOS paperwork, It allows you to list your husband/wife and im guessing the k2s are children so you would list them there anyone else im not sure.

2. I entered aswell on a k1, And we waited 2 weeks to allow whoever to enter me into the system. And got my SSN card. Now it was required in my state to have a ssn to get married (required on the licence) but it diffrent in other states, check with your clerk of court.

3. Times vary at diffrent centers. You can check those times at this website.

Good luck.

I will be marrying in a state that does not need a SSN to marry. Will we get her social AFTER THE MARRIAGE, WITHIN THE 90 days or will they refuse?

Does one done ONE I-485 to include both the K-1 and K-2 visa holders or does one do multiple I-485s?

A K-1 can get the SS document in her married name if she has an immigration docuemtn to back it up, or if her marriage certificate includes certain identifying information (see SSA.gov)

It's always better to get whatever SS card is available in those first 76 days, even if in the maiden name. After the initial 76 days, she will need an EAD or Green Card in order to apply for a Social Security account or card in her married name.

To avoid the I-485 being returned, can someone please advice whether we will file one I-485 (with the K-1 and K-2s in it) or different I-485 forms.Of course multiple filings means more fees. Situation is that we have children 8 and 2 who are the K-2s.
