Hi Greenbaum & Hank.. I have a question regarding N.B.I? Should I still indicate my previous married name on my AKA? Your answer will be much appreciated! TIA

Yes. And here is why:

NBI CLEARANCE (Green Form): Applicants aged 16 years and older must have a valid Record Clearance (for travel abroad purposes) from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI). Clearances should be in the applicant’s current name, birth certificate name, maiden name, married name, and any aliases or nicknames ever used, including different spellings of all names ever used. An official letter of explanation from the NBI is required for any notation of “No criminal record”, or "No pending case”. For immigration purposes, an NBI clearance is considered valid only for one year from the date it is issued. You may contact NBI at (632) 523-82-31 to 38. The NBI website is http://www.nbi.gov.ph.

International recognition of japanese divorces is complex in the case of a kyogi rikon (uncontested divorce) which is extrajudicial (a judge doesn't sign off on it). Generally there is no problem with USEM in these cases, but the RP government is more hit and miss though in terms of past history.

Chotei rikon (the type I got, a mediated settlement signed off by a judge) and saiban rikon are generally no problem with the RP government.

Need an AKA for any and ALL names used, so yes you need to list your name from your previous marriage.

Did you make a copy?

USEM does list the police certificate as required documents.

Yes, as you will not pass the interview and NVC I doubt will forward it on to USEM. Get on it now so you don't waste too much time.

FYI - everything NVC receives during the AOS process (for immigrant) is forwarded to USEM, then all stuffed in the DO NOT OPEN ENVELOPE and carried back to the USA. (of course there are electronic copies of the complete flie)

Just the same, USEM want everything that is listed in their instructions letter as them seem to ignore the other file. that's the government for you

My wife had to get a Japanese Police clearance as well. it was in a sealed envelope and had to be sent un-opened to the NVC. NVC forwarded to the USEM manila and there was no issues for her interview at USEM about the Police clearance.

That's good information to know. Thanks for sharing. One question is why can't Japan send it to USEM and not NVC? Also, others have initiated their PC thorough the Japanese embassy and can pick it up there and hand carry to their interview. What's the difference I wonder.
