Kerrygold butter. It's good stuff. I think we're lucky on the east coast though.. I live near Amish country, very excellent butter indeed. But beyond that, when it's holiday baking season I break out just the plain generic stuff provided from a local farm company to the supermarket or Wild Harvest Organic. Works for me.

Cant say that I share the sentiment, Kerrygold reminds me of milk from an old cow...little too farmy for me.

I love butter and will eat it by the slice if given the chance, I also bake often - Land O Lakes seems just fine to me

Yes!!!! I just went to the grocery store to get the fixins for dinner, and looked at the butter. Definitely Kerrygold

I don't think it is the recipie for the butter, I think the fault is in the cows giving the milk. Cows here are like US children, they sit about and eat but never exercise. So you are getting unfit milk ( in more ways than one ) to make butter from. Try looking for some small farmer near you that makes butter , too small to make anyones list of butters. I will bet cows that get out and exercise gives you better milk.

This statement is patently stupid. Fit cows? Cows don't exercise. They stand in a field and uncomprehendingly watch trains go by. Their level of exercise doesn't have a damn thing to do with the flavor of the butter.

If you want a butter with more flavor, you get a butter with more FAT - quite the opposite of what you recommended. Kerrybutter has more fat, so it has more flavor. That's culinary 101. The type of grass the cows eat also has impact upon the flavor of their milk and butter.

Please stop insulting US children and US cows, and also stop giving bad culinary advice.

I grew up on 160 and even though they aren't in jogging suits there is a definite difference between the meat and milk from a cow that ranges to graze and one that doesn't. Cows sitting in the muddy pens used by big dairies on the west coast are not as healthy and that affects their milk .

The quality of the butter depends on what the cow eats. Grass fed and organic ! Forget the hormone -antibiotic- GMO -grain fed mess.

I agree. Cows kept in filthy crowded conditions don't produce the same milk/butter as do grass fed "happy cows" allowed to roam outside.

And yes.....youtube has some very cool videos of happy running and skipping cows that don't just stand there like a statue and look stupid.

Being cost-conscious, I use (and prefer) the margarine sold for 99 cents at Aldi Foods. I notice no difference in taste from anything else, and Mrs. T-B. doesn't care.

Savoryfood.net has the French President butter (salted and unsalted) often at great discount. I know we used to stock up on this in West Africa - perfect with hot baguettes. Can't wait to order some more soon.

We use Land O' Lakes when I am in Fargo (POE this Friday!! WHEEEE!!!!). Anyways, I haven't done much cooking, let alone baking yet, but I AM fairly close to the border so if I find I can't get no satisfaction from American butter, I can make a butter run to the Great White North (just like I made the cheese runs to the south, lol!).

Cows producing milk need more than grass. As do pregnant cattle. The video shows very fat, non-producing cattle.

I do not disagree in any way, shape, or form that cattle should be out on grass. I think even mentally it is good for them to do so. However, they need more than just grass or hay. If at such a time as people decide they no longer want cheese, milk, or other dairy products (or items made from those products), imho, diary cattle will become extinct because there would be zero need to breed them.
