Other Countries Police Certificates & Nick Names

On the Manila Embassy website it states:

a) OTHER COUNTRY POLICE CERTIFICATES. Applicants aged 16 years and older must also present police certificates from other countries where they have lived for one (1) year or more after reaching the age of 16. As with NBI clearances, foreign police certificates should be obtained in any maiden names, aliases or nicknames used while in the country in question, including different spellings you have used of those names. Country-specific information on how to secure police certificates is available on the State Department’s web site at http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/english/fees/reciprocity-by-country.html.

My wife has the nick name Precy that her friends called her. We listed this as we wanted to follow the rules and be honest. I had someone drop off my application in both Hong Kong and Singapore. I had included a letter indicating I need the certificate in her nickname name also. I also emailed the Hong Kong Police Department and they said they issue in passport name only. When I got the Singapore certificate it had her passport name only.

The NVC Checklist I received only ask for a Police Certificate, it doesn't ask about a nickname. I also called NVC and it didn't seem to be a problem so I'm not worried about getting my case complete hopefully next month. I am worried about the Manila Embassy.

Will they give me a hard time over not having her nick name on the Singapore and possibly Hong Kong police certificate as it seems these countries don't include them?

For police clearance USEM does not require nicknames, so you should be fine with normal names.

Also do you see any problems on me taking my wife to her medical on May 11th as I wont have the embassy appointment yet?

I already have the CFO appointment made, it would be nice to get this all done while I'm in town for a visit.

The NBI clearance requires all names but not PC's. You can take her to the medical but they will not allow you to go inside. You can also attend tge interview which is a great experience. You won't be allowed in the CFO interview either.

There is no issue with completing the medical early, but do remember the 6 month visa validity starts on the date of the medical, if you have plans to delay traveling to the USA be aware of the validity date on the visa.

Not to be argumentative as I appreciate your help. The Manila checklist states the Police Certificates also should be in nick names.

Am I over thinking this? I just don't want any delays or further complications.

Her NBI clearance (green one) should reflect the "Precy" as AKA.

Nothing much you can do with the Singapore and HK PCs.

NVC accepted her NBI, but I had her apply for another as they failed to list her aka. She will have that at the interview. My worry was Singapore and Hong Kong, Hopefully it doesn't come up as it was a pain to get them. Hopefully the embassy will realize that's how they issue them.

Hi, my wife had the same problem with her singapore police clearance for which the first time she sent in from philippines they never received cuz phil post lost it i had to send her to Singapore in person to apply cuz we're were wasting alot of time waiting for something they never received, that was the only thing holding us back from CC. So good luck

We had someone drop it off and pick it up for us. Then that person sent it DHL to

me as i dont trust Philippines mail. Did she have a nick name?

You can spend the time, money and effort to secure your PC's in every name she has ever used while living in each if those countries. I know of couples who have done it both ways and had no issues. Edited April 12, 2015 by Greenbaum

Yes but it didn't matter only the official name that she used while working there. The name she used on her OFW CERTIFICATE
