10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Wife and I are looking into moving to the Tampa/Clearwater area within the next year or so. We're just in the beginning stages, but I'm hoping we can make it happen. Real Estate is very reasonably priced compared to what we are paying here in Mass, prices are almost double in Mass for the same square footage you can get in Tampa.

The downside are that wages/pay are lower as well.

i heard clearwater is fabulous, we will come down to look there as well, but i think it would be too steep for us right now.

I've looked into GA, areas of augusta and mannnn, you can pretty much get a 4-5 bedroom house for under 200k easy.. but my husband doesn't want to move there

Yes they are. In our case we are fortunate enough to have enough money saved and enough equity in our current home to either put a large down payment or pay cash for a decent home, so the income being lower shouldn't be that much of a problem, but we'll see. My wife and I are in our early 50's and we're looking at this as the first step to retirement, and after this past winter in New England, we want out!

In the Tampa area it's about 250K for a decent 3 bedroom 2 bath with a pool and a bit of a yard. The Tampa area is really nice, I've vacationed there a couple times. The biggest hurdle will be finding employment.

i really really really liked panama city, but geez. everyone is like, it's a dump, it stinks blah blah... but to me, there ain't no way it's worse than SE KY.. lets be real.

i will be transferring (or at least hoping to), so a job is not a big concern.

I don't actually know where Panama City is but I believe it's south of Miami? I wouldn't want to live that far south - too much traffic and too many people... we were in Fort Lauderdale for ten years and liked it but it was rather expensive and prices kept going up, so we moved to Stuart last year and LOVE it. It's a lot quieter, housing is a lot cheaper, and there's a ton less traffic congestion, but it's still close enough to Palm Beach to be able to reach 'civilisation' easily. Plus they're still building up here so the big box stores are coming, we just have to be patient... (another reason to live a littler further north is hurricanes - if you're in the Keys you have to evacuate entirely too often!) And another plus about living a little further north is you can be in Orlando in under three hours (helps when you have family there...)
