Have you tried to Sub-forum for Vietnam? You could see if anyone has said anything, and you can also inquire for information or stories about their journey.

I did a little bit of checking prior to my wife's arrival, and did not find anything recent. Then again, I was looking for English-language sites. To the extent they exist, it's likely any forum would be in Vietnamese. My sense of it is Vietnamese immigrants share information between one-another (friends and family)...perhaps on Facebook. Just a thought.

This might not be exactly what you're looking for, but PBS did a film awhile back called "Mai's America" - which is about an exchange student coming to Mississippi.

That looks like it'd be interesting to watch. Looks like it's relatively impossible to come by online. Only the trailer seems to be available.

Yeah I was trying to find the actual film, but that was all that seems to be around. I never watched that but someone I know did, and they mentioned that girl was kind of a spoiled brat to begin with, since her family was well off (she had maids to do her stuff back in Vietnam). But then again, it's fairly affordable to get a housekeeper I guess, but still she must've had money to be an international student.
