As an aside what were you doing in Tunisia? Is this part of your studies?

I have no information on who his lawyer was... trust me getting this divorce, not knowing where he lives or works or lawyers number took a year and half.. it was chaos... But i did go through with a marriage interview.

@cody and daisy... do you suggest i even bother to file for the g-639 then? do you think by not giving them this will complicate things more for me in case if i attach a letter explaining what happened? i feel i will be looked at harder because a.) i left him in summer 2013 but the divorce wasnt finalized till march 7 2015. but i have been with my fiance now for over a year. Do u think by me not putting down an alien # will prolong my process or not make a difference? im just worried about what moves to take. i need opinions. i appreciate your responses

no, i met him randomly through a witty facebook comment i left. i was skeptical to take him serious considering the notorious fraud reputation the men have and i was still going through a divorce. but honestly it wasn't even like that. i gave it a year before i even met him we skype 4 hours a day sometimes more. in fact i just got back from tunisia last friday. lol. he's my best friend and love of my life. this k1 stuff all of us are going through is so bittersweet isnt it?!

I've seen people on here before not having put the alien number and having had no problems doing so.

I have never seen someone on here having to file a freedom of information act, that seems a little extream.

Especially considering you did not file any immigration papers for him, you have the divorce decree and therefore know the basics about him.

Seems like she did petition him and did go through AOS.

You are absolutely right, as long as I have the finalized divorced paper. Putting unknown for the Alien # with a breif explanation as to why it's unknown, should be good enough. I just want things to go smoothly. I'm still frazzled dealing with divorce paperworks! oy vey! I didn't file, but i did sign and do the interview. I do think having that divorce paper is enough. it's reassuring to know, that you have known other's who have put unknown and their cases were fine... should i explain as to how i have been in a relationship for over a year, but finalized divorced just a month ago?! lol! okay another question as for proof of conversations, is there a limit i should send, or does it matter how much proof?? i heard someone say 4 convos a month.. then i hear other people say as much as you can.

Backtracking a bit to something you said......Quote [but a month after marriage he tells me we need go sign some papers with his lawyer. turned out to be an immigration lawyer]......

It seems to me, going to the Lawyer and asking for a copy of the papers you jointly filed would be a good place to start.

..and if I was you, I wouldn't go into detail about the current situation, just a simple letter to the Lawyer asking him to send you copies. I would be surprised if the Alien number is not somewhere on those forms.

If i had access to his lawyer, I would have been divorced 2 years ago not march 7.... I have nothing on this guy. He was nearly impossible to divorce... he was very secreative about everything. he took our marriage certificate, he took any information that related to him. it was so tedious to get a divorce. for hating me so much, he didnt seem to want to be divorced... i was used, only reason why he wouldn't cooparate with the divorce. and now his status may have changed because of the filing for divorce happened before our two year anniversary wouldve came. but i dont care what happens to him. he is is own problem. but he sure as hell won't help me with giving me any info.... i had to hunt down just to figure out the year he was born. omg.

I hear what you say, but Lawyers specialise - the divorce Lawyer will not be the immigration Lawyer. It's pretty near impossible that the same lawyer is being used for both. Most likely there was no contact after the Immigration, and his secrecy will work against him here, as he will not have told the immigration lawyer the truth either, so from that Lawyer's point of view he is Both of your lawyer.

So I'm going to assume you can remember the building you went in to sign this? So simply use Google earth to walk down that street, look at the door/office, get the details and the address and send one letter - why just give up without trying?

I did not have a divorce lawyer..... which is why that was also a very frusterating thing to deal with. No, i don't remember the building or even the name. I live in los angeles. it was in downtown los angeles, every building looks the same not to mention how many floors are on each one... yes i know he is screwing himself over, but that is a different story. all i knew was he was a turkish immigration attorney... i googled that as well couldnt find him either. trust me i have been on the search for anything on him. thank you for your tips though!

Fair point. OK two last thoughts. It's possible to get access to your W2 and other Tax filing records online or get copies ordered. If you filed jointly, or you remember certain details of your filing, you can go about getting copies. Have a look at the I-134 forums for details on how to do that. It's slim - but you will then have more information you can mine to find ways to get other information - think of it as a papertrail.

Census information, freedom of information access... various routes. It is tedious but possible to follow the paper.

..or...just put up with the wait... :)

The only point I'd make is that as time passes, organisations archive and delete information - legally they are only forced to keep it for so long, losing intel that you may want in the future, so after 6 years has gone past any of these will become much harder.

I wish you the best of luck with this.

Oh...and one last point. On your bank statement, around the time of the original sponsorship of your ex - maybe there is a payment with the Lawyer's company name.

You are too kind to take the time to reply with all of this. As far as my w2's go, i havent worked since before i was married to him. i married 2012 and i worked summer 2011. i was never anyones sponsor just like for my k1 for my fiance. what is the I-134 forums? if i cant access his alien # do u think putting unknown will prolong my process, or make no difference? im getting mixed messages on this thing. so tedious ! then i find out i have to find a notery to notarize my signature once i do fill out my g-639 (if i do). im torn as to writing unknown with an breif simple attachment as to why.. and im torn between just waiting it out another 2 months just so i can get a 6 digit number.... it's crazy how i can't simply just go to my immigration office and get it right then and there. all i need is that number.. what a bummer :/ as if divorcing him wasn't hard enough, now my ex is prolonging my time trying to bring my fiance here. im just so over all of it... EVERYTHING is filled out and looks amazing to submit... just this one part grrrrrrr

It works for me and i don't have any problem using "unknown" for K1 application. But i noticed that they (USCIS) provide those information when they send me a copy of my application before interview. Just tell the truth and you'll be ok

You would have completed an I 864 for your ex, still on the hook.
