A Number on NOA2 and Visa do not match

Hello!

I am working on my AOS and I have discovered that my A# on the NOA2 does not match the A# on my visa. I called USCIS and they told me they can't help me and to make an infopass appointment. While I am waiting on that, has anyone else had this issue and what did you need to do to fix it?

I am also emailing my embassy. I am thinking that they likely made the screw up and the NOA2 is right, but USCIS refused to confirm or deny...

ARGH. Frustrates me that they can't help by phone. I get that they cannot give me any personal numbers, but they should be able to tell me if the number is wrong on my visa or not...

08/12/2015-ROC Approved. Got letter in the mail.

08/29/2015-received new card in the mail.

Yeah it is the alien registration number I believe... Basically the file number for me at USCIS. They put it on the NOA2 but also on the actual visa when you get it.

I was thinking that the one on the NOA2 is probably correct... but I worry that things could go missing, get rejected etc if I mess that up on my AOS forms... It is frustrating that they can't at least tell me what number is right. at least then I could get my paperwork in while figuring out how to correct the error

Why wont you consult with a lawyer?

A lawyer in this situation would likely not be able to do anything that you cannot do by yourself, except take your money.

I would advise using the Alien # that was first given to you on the K1 NOA2 notice.

Yeah i agree, I don't think i am close to the point where a lawyer would make sense. I think my plan is to use the noa2 number so i can finish and send in my aos and keep my infopass appointment so we can see if i need to get my visa fixed. At worst, they would probably just send my application back if i got the a# wrong...

I just hope it wont be a big issue to fix it...

I will udate when i learn more! If anyone has run into this and can share what happened in their experience, please do! Helps put my mind at ease :)

A lawyer in this situation would likely not be able to do anything that you cannot do by yourself, except take your money.

I would advise using the Alien # that was first given to you on the K1 NOA2 notice.

That is plain stereotyping Pitaya, I got so many help with lawyers and the price is convenient.

But well, if you opt not to consult Chiggins, its your choice. It was a question not a suggestion anyways :D

If a lawyer is not yet needed, no worries at all. The consulate should be able to help you or try calling USCIS again. In my experience, they are very helpful and concise :)

I agree with Pitaya. In the OP's case, a lawyer can't do anything except take money. This is not a problem solvable by a lawyer. Also, this site exists as a self-help site, fully designed to teach people how to go through the entire immigration process without the aid of a lawyer. You will save hundreds or thousands of dollars by doing what others on this site have already done before you. There is no need to advocate a lawyer for a matter that cannot be handled by a lawyer.

This is America and it's very clear that freedom of choice is something that Chiggins can practice.

It was, and still is, my impression that retaining the services of a lawyer would not be necessary in this situation.

My comment was not intended to be construed as a stereotyping of lawyers. If you really want to see stereotyping of lawyers, use the forum Google search function, insert the word "lawyer," and check out the (likely) myriad of lawyer threads that can easily be found on these fora. :P
