i had the original certified embossed copies, but I don't remember if I was asked to present it at the interview. I agree that we were already married being a factor but we still had to have them. They were certainly on the list of items we had to bring with us.

To the OP, didn't your list of required documents include that?

ETA: I just pulled up my P4 to look at it. It said "marriage termination" but didn't say applicant or petitioner where some of the items said petitioner specifically. I certainly brought all of them. Heck, they're still in the binder I brought in case I need them again during ROC now. BUT it said "S" beside it which stood for S = Scanned document received. The original document must be presented at the time of the interview.

Just checked my IV packet, too. I only sent my divorce decree. Not my husband's.

But definitely had it with me at the interview. There was a point somewhere that it was needed, wasn't it?

for the K1 both parties have to show they are free to marry.

To update on this since I just had my interview.

They did ask if either of us had been married at my interview. She looked at the divorce certificate I had for him. I think it's better to have it then not have it - just in case!

It didn't seem like it was a big deal, but she did say let me look real quick. She glanced at it and gave it back.

Was it a photocopy or original you showed them?

Maybe it's a K1 thing? hrm. Interesting.

I susopect so - maybe with the CR1 you already have your marriage cert for eachother and they don't look further back?

A few months later but this may be of value to folks.

I can confirm based on our experience in Montreal last week, a CR1 will need an original or certified copy of a Divorce Decree/ Certificates ( this may be a new thing) I am not sure how they thought we were able to get married with out a divorce, but they want it.

We are now in Administrative Processing 221g , had to courier the document and now we are just waiting. No travel till this is resolved.
