Question About the Sealed Envelope

I just spoke to the US embassy Manila on the phone. Normally, they would require her to give the package back to 2GO to send back to Manila, then wait for its return. However, when I explained that she already has her ticket to the US, they said that she should come to the embassy anytime Monday thru Thursday, between 10:00 AM and 12 noon to Window 38, and bring a copy of her flight confirmation, and then they will reseal (or replace?) the envelope as she waits.

Since she will have a couple of days in Manila before her flight to the US, I think we will do this option just to avoid any questions at the POE.

This topic has been a hot potato for sometime now. Your answer has been the closes we have ever heard what the options are. But, we don't know what is acceptable and what would be a problem once someone lands at their POE. It would be a great help if she could ask some questions when she is at Window 38, what is and is not acceptable. How does one send it back via 2go? Do they require any type of authorization from USEM or do we just stick in a envelope with a letter describing the situation? Anything that will help the next person behind you as many of us stick around and contribute after our wife arrives.

Thanks, and again congrats and I hope she has a very safe trip. Welcome to These United States.

Thanks for the comments, and I'll try to get more info. I gotta tell you, this whole situation irritates the hell out of me. As if we don't have to go through enough hoops already, this ####### comes about. One would think if their stupid envelope is so important, they would use some type of durable material for it instead of that paper that tears and splits so easily.

I have thought that many times, there is that tyvek stuff that UPS, USPS and FEDEX use that would remove the tearing issue for sure. But no, they use the old manila envelopes that you can buy for 3 cents.

I share and agree with your thoughts. This topic comes up at least once every two months or so and has been going on since 2009 (I did a search and stopped at 2009 all those who have posted this same topic). There should be a smaller envelope attached to the larger envelope for the passport and then instead of the stupid paper envelope use a plastic envelope that when sealed is tightly wrapped around the paper envelope which is the "do not open" envelope.

We are just too smart, that's why we don't work for the government.

Guys, this is the US Gov't we're talking about remember? Contract for office supplies will go to the lowball bidder. Odds are they're just going across the street to the Office Warehouse near the Bayview and using their quality envelopes and running them through the print office to print the do not open print on top.

This isn't the F-35 we're talking about here.
