Where is my closest embassy?

You don't go to the Police Station for the certificate. You can print the forms from the website, submit the required photos and evidence and you send it off in the mail. Mine was back within ten days. Use the link to the guides posted in a previous post. It tells you everything you need to do and how to do it. Take it one step at a time and come back and ask when you need help at each stage, if necessary. If you try to guess and worry about everything before you go through the guides, you are going to overwhelm yourself and add to the anxiety.

Yes, I just read everything now, so now I look silly! I have made a checklist of everything to make it easier for me. You have been a great help and I will definitely come back for your help if and when needed.

I remember reading a while back about someone who contacted the embassy and managed to get his medical and interview on the same day, as he lived so far away.

If I was you I'd send them an email asking, no harm in trying.

I was going to post the same thing. If you will explain your extreme hardship with transportation and anxiety traveling alone to London, they may make an exception for you.

Here is the contact form. Choose the second to last reason for contacting them. http://london.usembassy.gov/niv/visa_contact_form.html
