CA state ID

Hi VJer's!!

I'm planning to apply for a CA State ID next week so I could open a bank account, etc... I checked the DMV website to get an appointment but their first available appointment for Fremont office is on Saturday, April 18, 2015 at 11:10 AM.. duhhh??!!! I'd rather to go there on earlier date and stand on the line...

Anyway, I read some related topics here in visa journey and it says that i need EAD and/or GC before I applied for my state ID . Is that true??

I already have my SSN with my married name but I don't have EAD and GC yet (will submit our AOS application hopefully before end of this week). My I-94 says Admit until date: March 25, 2015 and will expires on May 31, 2015. I don't know if the documents that I have will suffice the requirements to get a state ID.

Please enlighten me....

True, they will ask your GC and passport im not sure about EAD.

i would suggest to chech DMV Fremont website there are requirements that you need to bring on the day you apply ID

If you have a SSN and your passport, then you are fine to open up a bank account here in California. My wife and I did that when we she came here in 2012. We used her SSN and her passport to open up a wellsfargo account.

i got my state id wayback dec 2014 after i sent my AOs,they asked for my i-797c for aos and my passport,2 proof of mailing under my name and my i-94,my state id expired last feb 1 the same date my I-94 expired..then when i got my ead last feb 27 i went back and renew it,i had no issue using my ead to renew it,and they used SAVE to verify my admission status here in the US before they actually renew it for 1 year..

Nope.... My I-94 says:

Most Recent Date of Entry : 2014 December 26

Class of Admission: K1

Admit Until Date: 2015 March 25

and on the right top corner of my I-94 says: Expiration date: 05/31/2015

We have tried to open a bank account in Chase and they said if I don't have any proof of billing showing my name with our current address I should provide them atleast an ID issued here in US like the state ID.

To apply for an ID card you will need to do the following:

•Visit a DMV office (make an Appointment(s) for faster service)

•Complete application form DL 44 (An original DL 44 form must be submitted. If you have not received your ID after 60 days, call 1-800-777-0133 to check the status. Have your receipt and/or old ID card with you to provide information when requested.

Simple. You don't need a utility bill, don't need a rental agreement, and you don't need your first born. This comes straight from the CA DMV.

The I-94 is only valid for 90 days, the 25 March date is when it expires. Not sure what that May day is, except maybe the expiration date on the visa. But the I-94 will expire in 15 more days.

I hope I will not get any problem about my I-94... Because the website says I need my foreign passport and a valid I-94... My I-94 will expired on the 25th and I'm planning to go to DMV office next week (a week before my I-94 expires)....

As long as you finish with DMV before March 25th, then it's not an issue.

I went to DMV by online appointment last February..I went there with my passport ,SSN and I-94..they did not accept it for the fact that my K1 visa will expire March 15th..They will only allow me to take my DMV written test if only I still have at least 60 days left before my visa will expire..they suggest that I'll just re-schedule with them if I got my EAD and NOA's for my AOS for proof that Ihave filed for my adjustment of status..so disappointing but that's their rule and we need to follow...regarding opening of Bank Account ,My husband has a Chase account too but they won't allow me having a joint account with him even if I brought our marriage contract, the bank rep told us that they will only allow if I already have my own billing statement under my name that bears a U.S. address, so what I did was I open a bank account at bank of America instead , I used my passport, ( showing in addition 2 more ID's which is my Philippine driver's license and my PRC license ) and of course My SSN,they want to see the original SSN for proof...that's it..
