Inexpensive places to meet - UK and USA flying..

A bit of background...we're about three years into our relationship, and I've flown to and from the USA for a week about every three months, but not since the I-129F was submitted.

It's now nearly nine months, and we sent back an RFE (which is not showing on our status that they got, but our Lawyer rang up and they have got it) and they are saying it's going to be another 60 days minimum before a decision....(grrr...TSC pffft )

..seriously, I'm dying inside and I HAVE to see my babe again....

I'm fully aware it's possible to risk flying there and they may or may not let me in, and yes, I have a good record of going back, and I might get in but at this stage I'm not going to risk it.

So...I want us to meet up somewhere in-between the UK and the USA (yeah I know that's mainly water :) )

Can anyone in our situation recommend a not-too-expensive country we can both fly to from our respective countries just to be together again for a while...?

...we looked at Rome, but it's a 20hour flight for her :(

Any bright ideas please?

Why not just fly to the UK?

I can vouch for Portugal as cheap and lovely, also it's closer to the US than Rome lol. Iceland is cool but I don't believe its cheap. You don't have a huge amount of options, as you've said yourself it is mostly water.

I was gonna say Reykjavik just for location. Per Google flights, there are some dates in mid-April from Newark for $800-900. I see plenty of hotel options on Google for under $100 a night. I'm not sure what your definition of inexpensive is, but anything last minute is going to cost more...

I second Hotter Otter that Portugal could be a good option, too.

It would help to know where your fiance is from in the States. Cheap flights to Cancun may be an option. Why isn't anyone mentioning Canada?

The profile says NJ, so I went with that.

I don't know why I discounted Canada as too cold, but then suggested Iceland :rofl::rofl:

Could be a good option too.

Thank you all for your replies, and I like the idea of Portugal most...as it's warmer :)

Yes - New Jersey (Newark) would be where we had to fly from - Sorry Aaron..Flying to the UK is not an option as we've had issues with UKBA, and Ireland alas is considered by UKBA to be part of England due to the joint agreement.... otherwise Ireland would be fab!

What was the problem with the UKBA specifically? Previous refusal or just being a hassle-pain-in-the-butt in general?

Iceland is really nice... but have you also tried looking at Norway? It's pretty much going to be expensive going to Europe no matter how you look at it, so if you really want to commit the cash, pick somewhere really nice and relaxing perhaps.

Hang in there, you'll get some sort of response from them soon.

How about an all-inclusive resort somewhere warm? You can get good deals depending on timing sometimes, and at least food and lodging is included so you can spend the week just relaxing together. I'd suggest Cuba but I think that's still out for Americans? If not, Cancun/Riviera Maya in Mexico, or Dominican Republic?
