MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The fatal shooting of an unarmed black 19-year-old by a white police officer, who authorities say fired after he was assaulted, prompted protesters Saturday to take to the college town's streets with chants of "Black Lives Matter."

Tony Robinson died Friday night after being shot in his apartment following a confrontation with Officer Matt Kenny, who had forced his way inside after hearing a disturbance while responding to a call, authorities and neighbors said.

"He was unarmed. That's going to make this all the more complicated for the investigators, for the public to accept," Koval said of Robinson. The department said Kenny would not have been wearing a body camera.

Koval said Kenny, a more than 12-year veteran of the Madison department, also shot and killed a suspect in 2007, but was cleared of wrongdoing because it was a "suicide by cop-type" situation. In that shooting, Kenny responded to a 911 call of a man with a gun and shot the man twice after police said he pointed the gun at officers. It turned out to be a pellet gun.

As happened in another well known case, if there are no witnesses, the officers account will stand. There is still the question of if he had probable cause to enter the premises.

The unarmed Wisconsin teenager who was shot to death last night during a confrontation with a Madison cop pleaded guilty last year to armed robbery and recently began serving a three-year probation term for that felony conviction, court records show.

According to police, an officer responded Friday to a 911 call about a man who had assaulted a victim and was dodging cars in traffic. The cop followed the suspect into a nearby apartment, where the man allegedly struck the officer in the head, knocking him to the ground. During an ensuing struggle, patrolman Matt Kenny fatally shot the suspect.

Family and friends have identified the victim as Anthony “Tony” Robinson, a 19-year-old Madison resident. “The initial finding at the scene did not reflect a gun or anything of that nature that would have been used by the subject," said Madison Police Chief Mike Koval.

Robinson’s mother, Andrea Irwin, said that, “My son has never been a violent person. And to die in such a violent, violent way, it baffles me.”

Robinson, pictured above, was arrested last April following an armed home invasion at a Madison residence, according to police records. Cops were called to the scene around 6 AM by a neighbor who “spotted several men, one of them armed with a long gun, entering an apartment building,” according to a police report.

Police arrived at the home “just as the armed robbery was ending” and a group of suspects was fleeing “with electronics and other property.” Cops subsequently recovered a shotgun and a facsimile handgun used during the robbery, as well as some of the stolen property.

Robinson was one of five suspects (each of whom was 18 at the time of their arrest) busted for the home invasion. In October, he pleaded guilty to armed robbery and was later sentenced to six months in jail, though a judge stayed the exection of the custodial term. Robinson was also placed on three years probation, which he began serving in late-December.

Robinson’s mother, Andrea Irwin, said that, “My son has never been a violent person. And to die in such a violent, violent way, it baffles me.”

Why are you more inclined to not believe the police officer? The guy has a violent history. Allegedly, he had just assaulted another person, then assaulted the cop. Then he was shot. How else would you expect assaulting a cop to end? He could have laid down when the cop approached. And he would be alive. He could have not assaulted that other person and the cop wouldn't have even been around him thy night. Life is choices. Crime leads to run ins with cops. Cops have guns.

I don't believe G put it very artfully and Lost never really tries to hide his overt racism, however I do think that both make the same point, one in artfully and one overtly racist.

The deceased caused the problems that ultimately left him deceased. Perhaps in time he might have changed his ways but in the here and now he was a menace to society and his end came during yet another series of bad choices he made. I have no sympathy for the deceased and I hope that the police officer gets through the trauma of this event.

No racism. Just no sympathy either.

Guys, according to the article, which is all I know, this guy literally just assaulted someone which is why the police were called. The police officer claims he was assaulted and then defended himself with his weapon. Based on an probable assault on another person that same night, I'm inclined to believe the officer.
