125% for both. Can you stand not working or travelling for about 90 days after you file the AOS which is after marriage? (For me this was the main issue and not travelling was not an option.) Co

The only reason I correct semantics like that is for when other people look up the process or try to help you. I get what you meant but a new person may not or a random off the internet may not. It'

When I started my journey I followed the guide in this forum. The guide pretty much led me to all the government forms and information I needed. The amount of information on here is very helpful and at times it will help you avoid checklist that might arise while following the government guides/steps (for example putting NA on blank places on your AOS whereas the government form states to leave it blank if it doesnt apply.)

Use the search function and you will find great deal of information on here.

Good luck. The waiting is the worst part.

USCIS

January 8th 2014 - NOA1

July 10th 2014 - NOA2

NVC

July 17th 2014 - Case shipped to NVC

July 30th 2014 - Case received by NVC

August 13th 2014 - Case number and IIN received by email

August 13th 2014 - DS-261 Form Completed

August 14th 2014 - AOS Fees Invoiced and Paid

September 17th 2014 - IV Fees Invoiced and Paid

September 19th 2014 - DS260 Completed

October 6th 2014 - AOS and IV Packages Received

November 28th 2014 - AOS and IV Checklist (4 items in total. 3 for documents they lost. Called on December 9 and a rep said no checklist for IV....go figure)

December 8th 2014 - Checklist scan date.

December 30th 2014 - Case Compl........NOT. So after not having an interview date yet, I called again on Jan 30th and apparently its in final review with a supervisor.

February 6th 2015 - Case Complete: Supervisor called from NVC to confirm everything has been completed now.

March 27 2015 - Interview Date

March 27 2015 - Approved!

You don't ever have to become a US citizen, if you don't want to.

The only reason I would was if my daughter was living with me at the time so that she could have citizenship. Otherwise I will not be pursing citizenship personally.

I think I will be because there are some ramifications with inheritance if you own property and you aren't a citizen.

You don't really have to worry about it unless you guys are really wealthy, as in you have assets over $5.43 million. http://www.nolo.com/legal-encyclopedia/estate-planning-when-you-re-married-noncitizen.html

Yes, that's my concern too. What if the deceased property owner is not a citizen? I think there's a big tax chunk taken, no?

I like the TN-1 and EB-5 - so if those are possible instead, I say chase them.

My ex-SIL bought a house in Hawaii and sold it too. Snowbirds own houses in the USA. I don't think there is an issue. Also according to that website I posted, it doesn't matter if the deceased person is a USC or not, there is no extra taxes until you own over 5.4 million in assets. (aka the house and property is worth more than 5.4 million after the mortgage is settled.) I don't know about you, but our house, vehicle etc, certainly isn't 5.4 million. LOL
