My fiance' is afraid she will automatically have to do a sputum test if she says that she was with her mother when she died & she died of TB. Is that true? I heard they ask if you have ever been in contact with someone who had TB. She is thinking of lying....

I recently had my medicals. I was not asked about if I had been in contact with a person with TB. Or did I just miss it. So she doesn't need to lie.

But if asked, I believe we should always say the truth.

I am not familiar with the test you speak of, but I do know that they take TB seriously. They take lying even more seriously. If caught in a lie, your fiance could wind up with a ban of up to lifetime. It is not worth the risk...at all. Telling the truth may extend your wait time, but in the long run is the best thing to do. Cross the medical bridge when you come to it. Just, whatever you do, do not lie to USCIS. It never ends well.

Good luck with your journey. :)

Don't lie. I think the x-ray will determine whether or not she will have to have the sputum test. My fiancee had to have the sputum test . Unfortunately her culture test was positive. Fortunately she is now being treated and will be healthy and TB free when she comes to the states.

Good luck and always tell the truth.

No, not true. Also, don't lie anytime during this process. Clean x-ray.. vaccinations the next day. ;)

One very obvious point, TB kills... if it is present better to catch it and be cured.

TB contagious people are being tested and treated all day every day at St. Luke's right next to people that are being asked if they have had contact with people with TB. Brilliant.

My Fiance' had her medical yesterday and they only told her to come back today at noon for the results. Is that pretty standard?

Yup, that is standard. Tomorrow she will either be told to go get vaccinations or testing for TB

I am a nurse and I've had contact with patients with TB. During my interview, I was not asked if I have ever been in contact with people with TB. And when I had my chest x-ray done, the results were OK, I presume, since I didn't have to undergo a sputum exam.

But if in case they ask, just tell them the truth. I don't think that would be a basis for them to ask you to go through a sputum exam or not because they look at the x-ray results to evaluate whether you'd have to go through the exam or not. :)
