Yes this is correct. The EAD is only issued for one year. The SSN card will still have the restriction until you have your green card.

NOA1: 04/08/2014; NOA2: 04/21/2014; Visa interview, approved: 07/15/2014; POE: 07/25/2014; Marriage: 09/05/2014



NOA1:  09/12/2014;  Biometrics:  10/06/2014;  EAD/AP Received:  11/26/2014;

Interview Waiver Letter:  01/02/2015;  RFE:  07/09/2015;

Permanent Residency Granted:  07/27/2015;  Green card Received:  08/22/2015



05/23/2017 -- Mailed ROC application

05/24/2017 -- NOA1 date

05/30/2017 -- NOA1 received in the mail

06/05/2017 -- Biometrics letter received

06/13/2017 -- Biometrics appointment

09/05/2018 -- Approved without interview!

09/13/2018 -- 10 Yr Green card Received

The restriction says the SSN Is valid for work only with DHS authorization. The EAD is the authorization that makes your SSN now valid for work. They give you a year anticipating you will get your greencard in that year. If not, you can renew the EAD.

Hi all

I received my ead card this morning and it is valid for 1 year only is this correct ? I485 is in process still and SSN says valid for work only.

The message on the social security cards is poorly worded, and what it really means is "only valid for work in conjunction with DHS authorization", in this instance the DHS authorization being an EAD card.

It just means that your SS card can't be used on its own to determine employment eligibility.
