I hope this isn't an ignorant question - or offensive to anyone - but my husband is Muslim and from the Afar region of Ethiopia. (I'm Catholic) This is close in proximity to multiple extremist groups, etc.

Would this influence how quickly or easily our case moves? I'm filing for him and 2 stepkids and we have one child together.

Well, would like to hope not, but what is known is that they have certain countries classified as high risk and if Ethiopia falls into that group then I guess they will scrutinize it, but as long as you have all the requirements and your marriage is legit you should be fine.

Just make sure all documentation is complete and request for extra documentation is resolved quickly, I think no one will have the exact answer for your question unless they work with USCIS.

In the worse case scenario they can put him into administrative processing for security checks. I don't know if Ethiopia does it on regular basis, but most men from Iran and other muslim countries go through it. Lot of luck!

Not an ignorant question at all. Unless they classified the region a dangerous zone which they have not. They rarely would expedite under extremist situations. Many of our families countries are under such situations.

If you feel he is in a dangerous situation they you should request a expedite. Call USCIS and they will request that you send the evidence to back up your claim that your husband is in a dangerous zone. Then they would render a decision based on your evidence. That's really all you can do at this point/.

It says in the instructions that they will look closely at people who don't seem to match, such as different religion, class, education, big age difference etc. So with your husband being muslim and you being catholic, you'll probably get asked about that at the interview stage if not earlier. Would probably be good for you to discuss that already now.
