I personally don't see the issue. I know my fiance (the USC) would not have an issue with me visiting family first, at least this trip is essentially a one way ticket and forever unlike fleeting visits that all of us in long distance relationships have had to endure. It is hard in the moment of course, but we are all striving for our happy ever afters, and will (hopefully) have many many years together to come. Begrudging someone 20 days with overseas family members hardly seems fair when you consider the bigger picture.

Just my opinion, and of course I respect that of those with differing viewpoints.

Am trying to be reasonable but it's hard I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings we re getting either 20 days or go straight to ure fiance .. It's the traditional way to see his brother n his fam ok I get that part .. I don't know it just eats me alive all the wait now this ... Since they're payinf for his ticket I guess they decide sucks to be in the middle .. Thank you all for the responses and understanding

maybe you could make a deal with him if he does that then you can do what you decide and maybe he will want to cut his visit time shorter. i am not making light of your situation but if he gets to visit his family that long you should be entitle to something

No because I have 2 kids in school , work plus his brother who is paying his plane ticket whom I appriciate wants my fiancé to stay 20 days or not at all .. I put my self in everyone's position they miss him he misses them I just think it's a long time buttttttt it's alright I'll see him after that ...

His brother buying him a ticket so why not to let him use this opportunity to go there first to see his brother? Besides you said his brother is going to drive him all the way down to Texas and be responsible for all expenses. If he goes to Texas first you may never have an opportunity to afford to go to see his family soon. Don't take it personally, just be flexible. Where there is love, there is trust. Be happy

But your POE is the first US airport/territory that you enter, not your final destination, so how would they know your travel plans from that point onwards? You could be getting a bus, plane or train from that point to almost anywhere...

Furthermore, your fiance may choose not to meet you in their hometown, but somewhere else, so again your journey may not be directly to their state.

I think there are too many variables for this to be a real issue. Just my opinion.

I personally would've had a hard time if my Fiancee wanted to visit family somewhere in America for 20 days before seeing me. The caveat is that one of those family paid the inbound flight & will also pay to bring my Fiancee home to me afterwards. That makes it hard to argue. Maybe a negotiation for 10 days is in order? It was your petition after all that made his trip to America possible.

But said family member is also paying for their ticket to get to the US, so surely they feel somewhat obliged to spend some time with them before heading to their fiance?

I don't want to hi-jack this thread so this is all I will say. The brother with the money has put stipulations on their relationship and the husband to be is willing to go along with those stipulations rather than the wishes of his wife. That's completely disrespectful to the wife to be and a sign of trouble to come in my opinion.

I respect your opinion, however I think denying someone the opportunity to see their family members, and being controlling, is also disrespectful.

20 days in the grand scheme of things should not be this much of an issue. Especially when the beneficiary is giving up their whole life to move across the country for someone, and will have to spend who knows how many months being unable to work or leave the US whilst they wait for their AP/EAD (and green card) whilst the USC can continue with their normal life/work routine.

I don't wish to offend anyone, just my opinion.

My fiance the beneficiary plans after he passes his interview he would like to stop in Detroit Mi to see his brother then for them as family to drive down to Tx to my residence will this have any negative effect on the POE ????

This is NOT a problem.

Once he enters the U.S. he will hand in his paperwork, they will stamp his passport and he is then

admitted into the U.S. After that, he can go (within the U.S.) anywhere he wants, for any reason,

so visiting family and/or friends in Detroit is no problem at all.

The ONLY restriction he will have is that he has to marry you within 90 days of the day he enters

the U.S. .. and they usually make that clear when they hand you back your (now-stamped) passport.

Folks, the OP wasn't asking for advice on how this looks upon their relationship, they wanted

to know if this (visiting family elsewhere in the U.S. before continuing to his final destination,

and get married) could create problems with the CBP officer at the POE. It does not.
