Did you meet on FB?

I just wanted to share our experience with all of you today. My fiance's interview was today...and yes we met over one year ago on FB, on a music webpage.

There was a thread here awhile back I remember the person was concerned because they met online and they were worried what the interviewing officer would think. There was much discussion and most everyone including myself didn't think it a big deal.

The most difficult part of my fiance's interview today was how we met. I don't want to scare anyone, especially unnecessarily. But he was not prepared for this as we both thought its pretty common these days. I never could figure out how to print our FB msgs...we have over 13,000 of them. Luckily, I sent him all our phone logs and our whatsapp chats. But only had a few months of whatsapp chats because we used FB until just recently. The IO did not ask to see one picture, even though he saw our album. He asked my fiance ALOT of questions. And had him explain how we could possibly have this great connection over FB and our ongoing communication.

So all I wanted to do is just share this and let people know, if this is how you met, be prepared just in case! I think my fiance did a pretty good job, but I could tell it rattled him a bit.

You wouldn't think so now a days. And I haven't heard of anyone else really having a problem so please don't panic. I'm just saying be prepared! The IO looked at all our phone and chat logs. He asked my fiancé repeatedly about my visits. Asked other relationship like questions and all the usual questions about me. After all of that the IO seemed satisfied....so just prepare to answer questions, show ongoing communication, and any evidence that can show ur connection.

Plenty of people meet online especially now a days. My cousin and his wife met online back when myspace was still popular lol and that wasn't a topic of discussion during their interview.

What may be of concern to CO's is if you met online and a month later decide to get married. Not that this happens or that it raises a concern every time, but just an example of how online relationship may be perceived.

Otherwise if you met online and your relationship has progressed enough in addition to having met in person it shouldn't be of much concern. They care more about the relationship itself rather than how or where you met since that is only one aspect of your relationship.

This does not constitute legal advice.

Right! That's all I'm saying just bring what u have to show its real. We've been together for over one year and I visited 3x so that helped us. I don't think a dating site would have been an issue with this IO. It was FB. He said to my fiancé "you met on FB? How? How could you have a connection over FB with someone so far away?" And it went from there. So just sharing that's all.

Me and my wife met online through a Facebook game. When we applied my wife did write it down and i got 1 question about it when i went to the embassy for my visa. But it was the general question, How did you meet :)

Never had any issues with it while going through the process and i bet a lot of us do meet through Facebook or related online websites etc.

We also met online and the officer did not even ask about it.....maybe it just depends on the country of individual officer??? But you can never be over prepared!
