President Barack Obama announced a move to normalise relations between the United States and Cuba on Wednesday, saying it is time to "cut loose the shackles of the past."

US president Barack Obama says the US will end its outdated approach to Cuba that has failed to advance US interests.

Mr Obama is announcing that the US and Cuba have agreed to re-establish diplomatic relations and open economic and travel ties. He said Canada had played a key role in discussions between the US and Cuba.

This is way overdue.

My wife's son and family just took a trip to Cuba this past Spring, they said they had a blast. It was inexpensive and great accomodations for the money. They are planning on going back in a year or two and wifey and might go with them.

They haven't figured out how to be properly outraged about this yet. They'll get there.

You give them too much credit. They're waiting for the right wing echo chamber to respond.

I spent about 5 months there, It's a beautiful place although I only saw a small portion of it, the town of gitmo. I have several Canadian friends who go there every year and say it's nice because there are no Americans.

That seems to be the popular consensus most everywhere. Americans do not travel well.
