Hi All,

I received the K1 packet from the embassy in colombia. It is VERY unclear if i need to wait to receive an interview date from the embassy then schedule that date on the web site or if I am free to pick my own date. I emailed them and the simple said read the email.... which I have done multiple times now.

I received the K packet about 3 weeks ago. So, if I need to wait for an interview appointment notification, how long does that typically take? Or can I schedule an appointment of my own choosing? the I129 is valid through Feb, 08 2014.

Thanks All!!

You will be the one to schedule the visa interview. From what I remember when I did it a few years ago, in order to schedule the interview you need to register first, create your profile, and pay your visa fee. After the visa fee is paid, you are then taken to a calendar page where you can select the date of your interview.

The email you received from the embassy should have given you instructions on how to pay the visa fee and register online.

Thank you for the reply Zedayn. I guess my confusion is the K-packet states to schedule online but when you get to the scheduling page, pay the fee (done) and read the statment there, it says not to schedule if you have not received a consular appointment letter form the NVC (see below). Is this the K-packet email? I cannot tell.

"Do not continue with this process if you have not received an Consular appointment letter from the National Visa Center (NVC), Kentucky Consular Center (KCC) or the Consular Section"

No, you schedule it. That's what the email is telling you to do, and is also your confirmation to go ahead and schedule...meaning they have your case and are ready to being processing.

You will not receive an appointment letter from NVC...that is for a different visa type. Basically once you get the email from the embassy that they are ready to begin processing your case is when you pay the visa fee and schedule the interview.

Also, a very helpful thread for going through the K-1 process in Colombia: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/473585-colombianos-con-visa-k-1-continuacion-7/

It's in Spanish, but there is a lot of helpful information there.
